There is a new PUG Cybersecurity degree plan that uses the certs that you already have. If you follow the plan exactly, then you will only have 7 courses + the capstone to do at PUG.

I'm curious about your take on the massive amount of writing required to complete a PUG ExcelTrack degree. I seriously considered PUG, but there is just no way I could complete all the work in a reasonable amount of time, and I really wouldn't want to try. In my opinion, only people who find college-level writing relatively effortless should even consider PUG ExcelTrack.

My husband completed the Analytics ExcelTrack and it was brutal. He has 25+ years experience, but the papers are long. There was at least 1 paper for each credit. Several had a project and a paper or 2 papers. So a 5 credit class is at minimum 5 papers. It took a lot of time to write all of those papers.

When I started my college journey, I was biased toward exams as that's what I was used to doing.

My experience with writing papers started with Study.com. I soon found out that I could write at 500 words per hour, including citations if I had a good outline. Following the rubric is key, don't try and write a masterpiece.

When I got to TESU, the classes were all based mainly on writing papers and a few exams. I realized I lacked APA citation skills when my professor commented on my first paper. Study.com lets you slide with sloppy APA though college professors will likely call you out on it.

Now I would much rather write papers than do exams for college courses. It's easy to get A's for writing, and you avoid the stress of studying for an exam.

I look at the work doing courses at PUG, and it seems similar to TESU and SNHU courses which are primarily writing-based.

ClockworkHammer gave a pretty good description of how things went at PUG. He said his workload was around 20-25 hours per week in which he did almost 7 courses the 1st term, higher than the 5 that is recommended if you transfer in max credits.

How you do on Sophia, and Study.com assignments will give you some indication of how well you will do on college courses that have writing assignments. The key for me is outlining the topics I want to write about and highlighting some key points I want to make for each topic. Then I'm just filling in the blanks, which makes writing a lot easier.

I interpret these parts of your response to mean that you used to think you weren't good at writing papers, but you later discovered that you are. I would guess that this is relatively rare. Usually people have some idea where they stand before getting to that point. Personally, I've known what effortless writing looks like from a young age because my sister strolled through school, all the way through a B&M bachelor's degree. I've always struggled with writing in school, then at work, and now I'm approaching 100 total pages for college-level courses, but it's still not any easier. I'm more familiar with the structure, the process, the format, the citations, but the writing is still slow and challenging.

For someone like me, just thinking about a PUG degree is painful. I estimate that, given an equal number of credits, PUG would take me at least five times as long to complete as WGU. However, I salute all those who can do it. You have a gift!

Actually, the rubric often makes it more challenging for me, not less. Most rubrics define qualities of the work which either conflict with the requirements or make them more complex. I seem to spend more time and get lower grades when I write to the rubric, so I've started ignoring them most of the time.
