If your MS program required a letter of recommendation, who did you ask? I'm not sure if I should ask a Professor, or my Marketing Director, or a family member or what...

They usually say who the letters should be from. For instance, one academic and one professional recommendation.

UMPI just says "one letter of recommendation" and doesn't mention anything further. That's why I'm confused on who it should be from.

They keep it generic which is nice, probably because they realize most people probably don’t have extensive academic or professional backgrounds. Most grad schools aren’t as kind.
In this this situation, it’s 100% going to be either an academic professor who can speak to your aptitude in OL or a former manager or supervisor which can do that.
That’s it.
I am assuming the family member part was a joke?

When they ask for one reference, it's basically going to be either an academic or a professional reference, so if you're looking for a better option, it'll be either A) Your professor or B) Your manager/supervisor at work. I would not choose anything else, unless you don't have a reference from either of these two, you'll have to go down a list you can use... Just to make sure, you should have a 'backup' option...
