I was blown away at how unbelievably easy the courses are at Penn Foster College. Two weeks ago I had just finished with Straighterline where I did Accounting 1, 2 and Business Communications. Those were easy classes too but there was some work and reading involved and a little writing assigment with the Business Communications class. Penn Foster courses on the other hand were a total pushover. I did the Financial Management in two days and could have easily done it in one. Consumer behavior took one day (still have to take a proctored final though) and Strategic Business Management took 3 days. I quickly learned that reading the book is a total waste of time unless you are interested in learning something from the course. Even if you take the time to read the book you're still only looking at 6 to 12 hours total reading time. If you just want to get your ticket punched then go through the exam and use the index at the back of the book to look up keywords and find out which answer is the correct one. These are multiple guess tests. So for anyone out there considering Penn Foster I say go for it. Easiest credit I ever acquired. Even easier than CLEP or DSST if if factor in hours spent studying for those exams and I should know because I took 24 of them.
CLEP: College Comp, Analyze Lit 72, Social Sci & His 67, Natural Sci 62, Micro 56, Macro 64, Psychology 69, Sociology 58, Mgmt 65, Mktg 67, Bus Law 69
DSST: Law Enforce 67, Money & Bank 61, Org Beh 70, HR Mgt 61, Bus Ethics & Soc 432, MIS 454, HTYH 456, Substance Abuse 465, Intro Compute 460, Intro Business 446, Intro World Relig 475, Supervision 438
TECEP: Advertising
TESC: Business Mathematics
FEMA: 3 credits for Free electives
ALEKS: Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trig
PENN FOSTER: Strategic Bus Mgt, Consumer Behavior, Financial Mgt
STRAIGHTERLINE: Accounting I & II, Managerial Bus Com, Statistics
Finished April 2013 (14 months of work) - Graduated June 2013 with BSBA Gen'l Mgmt from TESU
2017-Going to enter WGU's teacher program 5-12 Chemistry

I know, I try to recommend Penn Foster but some people rather go the SL route.. Maybe because SL is cheaper? But a Penn Foster course can be done literally much more quicker than a SL course. And if you go to Excelsior, you get a letter grade from PF credit. I like the cost of SL, but I like the work requirement in PF. It's much more less stressfull, you get two chances to pass the exams and the answers are literally in the book. With one Penn Foster course, one can take like 3-4 SL courses to make up for it, but in reality not everyone finishes those SL courses in 30 days. SL is a good route if you really put time in those classes otherwise the $99 builds up every month and you will be paying more. Not that I am bragging, this is from someone who has taken 60+ credit with Straighterline and 60+ credit with Pennfoster. I really recommend Penn Foster folks! This of course if you are a bad test taker like me would I recommend SL or PF, or if your miles or work a work schedule that is impossible to go take a CLEP/DSST. So I have a little bit of experience in both institutions/organizations to post my two cents, of course each to it's own.

What are we talking about here? Are we talking about getting General ED credits out of the way with Penn Foster? Do they transfer to TESC no problem? Like I need Humanities, English comp 1&2, College algebra and above, general physics, and social sciences. Are you saying i can take these at PF and they transfer easy into TESC?

Only if the course at Penn Foster (PF) can be found here as being currently approved: ACE CREDIT | The National Guide to College Credit for Workforce Training
Since PF has DETC accreditation and not regional, TESC will accept only those courses approved by ACE.
For College Algebra I'd recommend going through ALEKS.com which is only $20/month.
For the English, social sciences and humanities credits I'd recommend taking CLEP or DSST exams.
I don't believe that PF has a physics course that is currently approved by ACE so I would go with Straighterline for that one.

Or you could take the Uexcel for physics, but that's a tough subject to test out of.
Hmmm. The ease of Penn Foster courses doesn't bode well for DETC ever being considered the equivalent of regional accreditation. I've also heard that Columbia Southern University's MBA program is super easy.

Hmm, i like straighterline very much, have been set on them for a while now, but never heard of ALEKS. How do they work? Proctored exams? Buy text books? What's the deal?

ALEKS is really tutoring software mostly focused on mathematics, but some of their courses are ACE-approved. If you get at least a 70% on the unproctored, online pre-test, then you can request credit. If you don't get at least 70%, you work through problems in areas where you're deficient. You can request another online, unproctored test at any time. Once you finally score at least a 70% on a test, then you can request credit. There are no textbooks required.

Do not assume that all Penn Foster classes are easy. The Securities and Investment class is unbelievably difficult. Before you sign up for a Penn Foster class, I recommend you go into their blog and read what current students are saying about that particular course. If I had done that, I would have NEVER taken this class through Penn Foster.

I agree, I just graduated from their Electronics technician program and it was very difficult. I was actually quite surprised how hard it got as I went along. The ONLY complaint about the whole program is the experiments part, instructions sometimes didn't match the equipment. Overall, good program, and tough.
