Penn Foster and TESC Liberal Studies
#1
So check it,
I need 5 more cleps to finish in order to meet the requirements for a BA in Liberal Studies at TESC. Problem is, there's only EXACTLY 5 more I can take and a couple of em ive read about are not too easy (e.g. Modern Middle East).

So my worry is that I will fail one of them. If that happens, thats gonna blow cause I don't wanna take a 1200$ course at TESC to fulfill the requirements if i dont have to.

So i was seeing for possibly in the future if there are any courses from Penn Foster that TESC will accept as upper level from anywhere in the areas of:
Social Science
Humanities
Natural Science
or Math

I know Cost Accounting and Intermediate Accounting I & II are upper level and ACE approved but I can't do those cause theyre considered Business classes and Business is not one of the 4 arts & sciences that can go towards Liberal Studies.

Anyway - so yeah - might need a penn foster course thats upper level thats in the Liberal Arts

Yep

Thank You
-Kevin Cathy

I can't give advice about PennFoster--haven't taken anything with them. Have you considered some of the ECE tests? There are quite a few of those that are considered upper level in Humanities and Social Sciences. Also, instead of taking a course at TESC , have you looked into some of the distance learning, self paced courses, at some other colleges? I don't have the link handy but I made a list from a thread awhile ago that listed places that offer self paced courses.... here are some options.... LSU, BYU, Arkansas State, Ohio Univ, Colorado State Pueblo, Univ of Idaho, and Univ of Nebraska. You will need to do some research on these for your individual needs. I looked at LSU as a very good option for self paced course and very cheap---last I looked it was about $260 for the whole course. Can't beat that!

sweet deal - ill have to check those schools out.

just to clarify: LSU is Lousiana State Univeristy right?

thanx for the tips.
i think what ill do is just do my best and shoot for those 5 cleps. if i pass em all then i wont need to resort to that option.
but if i do, then ill definitely check in to see which would be the easiest and/or cheapest route to go.

do you by chance happen to know if ECE's Adulthood & Aging and Foundations of Gerontology tests are under subject of psychology (social science)

Gracias

according to the info i have, both of those tests are upper level social science ECE tests. I am going for a BA in Liberal Studies with TESC and I will be applying the Adulthood Aging ECE test toward my upper level requirement.

awesome dude - we're doing the same thing then.

so are you tryin to completely test out of everything at TESC for the most part?

reason im thinking of going with TESC is they accept so many dssts and cleps for UL credit - which is what i need cuz i got more than enough LL credits.

Excelsior has a capstone, and if you fail one of the DSSTs you either have to pay more to take an ECE exam or even more to take a class.

whatever - everyones got their reasons and all are the same but im pretty sure im gonna stick with TESC. Yep yep.
How close are you then?

first of all, that'll be 'mam .... i am not a dude Smile

I have over 80 credits from university and have been testing out of the remaining credits that i need. i am very close to the finish line and hope to be done soon!! Tesc just seemed to work better for my situation so I am sticking with them. What is the capstone that i keep hearing about ?
#7
sorry about that dude-ett. im from cali and we call everyone dude - even chicks call other chicks dudes.
My bad.

Anyway - cool deal.

Thats pretty much identical to what I'm doing too. Smile

About the capstone: Excelsior used to have it to where you could test out of everything with DSSTs and ECEs, but now for I think every major including Liberal Studies, you have to take a 3 unit Capstone course that cannot be tested out of. And their class is like 1000$ so it's kinda lame if you were looking for testing out of everything.

I mean - it still beats having to take 40units the old school route and taking a million years and 30,000$ debt in student loans - so its still not bad at all. But i mean - who would want to do it if they dont have to. Thats why im goin for TESC. That and their UL assignments for sure.

Smile

Awesome

thanx again for your input

Hi Kevin,

Money and Banking FIN-332-DE / ECO-332-DE is another DSST which can be applied as SOCSCI to a Liberal Arts degree. I'm guessing you might have already discounted it as the exam feedback makes it sound painful but at least it's an option Smile

Good luck!

oh cool stuff - i did not know that.

Can you verify that Management Info Systems which is under Natural Science/Math category.

Its listed as CIS-301 or something and I read under Natural Science/Math that CIS exams are in that category as well as under Business.
So im pretty sure i could take MIS for some Natural Science units too.

Thanx about the Money & Banking!
