Penn Foster Strategic Management - Random Thoughts
#11
Hey, Upton, bring it on! If the webinar were interactive with fellow students, we'd see who out muscled whom (who?)1

Sanatone, it was implied in your posting, but I wanted to put in my two cents. While I don't know the housing arrangements for CONVICTED sex offenders, and you may be correct, I wanted to stress CONVICTED. As someone who has worked in the court system and the social services field, I can tell you that you'll find perverts in the nicest neighborhoods. Some just have been caught, yet. Unfortunately, many never will.

That's what I was referring to because our assignment was to search the sex offender registry by our zip code. They tried to argue that our sex offender registry was not comprehensive for convicted sex offenders pointing to a website that came up with more results. What they could not understand is that that website includes offenders within a certain radius of the zip code they were searching. They were getting multiple zip codes in their results while the official Texas website would only show offenders that were in the zip code searched.

You know my opinion of those registries? They create a false sense of comfort. As far as I'm concerned, you're all perverts; you just haven't been caught. Well, not quite ALL of you, but you know where I'm going with this. Lots of folks are never caught, or, if caught, they're charged with lesser crimes because the witness didn't want to testify, etc. In my county, I don't think juries believe that folks molest kids. So, unless you look like the hunchback of Notre Dame, you wouldn't get convicted.

The reason why many sex offenders will never be convicted is because

1) The victims are too ashamed to come forward.

2) Children are more likely to be molested by family members and close family friends.

Because I know that children are rarely kidnapped and molested by some stranger in the neighborhood, I don't have much of a fear of that. People need to pay more attention to their strange uncle. For rape, it's not 100% full-proof, but I have a concealed handgun license, pepper spray, a pocket knife, and defensive tactics training. I also try not to put myself in dangerous situations such as jogging in a secluded area at night.

Oh happy day! Rather than be my usual perfectionist-self (well, that's the excuse I use), I just sent in my Strategic Management project. Was is long? Nope. Was I nervous about how I cited things? Yep. (Al Gore hadn't invented the Internet the last time I wrote a paper.) Was it positively the greatest paper ever written? Of course not. Was it the best that I could do? No, but I've found that my striving for perfection usually causes me to freeze and flunk. As I've done well with my quizzes, I've finished my postings, and only have two webinars to go, this was the last concern for me of this course. It's done. All that's left is the grading. I'm going to try not to feel guilty about not submitting perfection, and just go on with my education. When I was younger, I never just strove to pass. Now, each year my pursuit of perfection becomes a bigger barrier to just getting it done. Keep your fingers crossed for me, please, folks.

Wow! While my perfectionist tendencies are too ingrained to be easily done away with, the grade from my submitted project for Strategic Management might nibble away at them. I got an A! PF was very fast grading my paper. I submitted a 6-page paper on Sunday, and today I got my grade.

Do you rememeber the music from Jaws? I hear it playing, and, no, it's not because we're all going back into the ocean. It's the sound of statistics and college algebra. Well, my happy moment didn't last long, did it?

I turned in my paper yesterday about 5pm and got my grade 8am this morning. Made a 100! Whoop!

Now I just have three darn webinars and I will be DONE! So glad I took this from Penn Fosters and not the TECEP....was a breeze honestly....

yes you can do everything without attending the webinars, they are just online chat sessions about the same topics. I did everything in about a week and like everyone else had to wait to do the webinars in order to finish.

Grrrr! My final webinar was supposed to be this evening. I arranged my life to be available. Less than 4 hours before the webinar, I get an e-mail that it's cancelled. Grrrr! It's set up at an inconvenient time. I arrange my life to be available, and it's cancelled. Grrr.
