Need help with SL Managerial Accounting, or SL in general
#1
At the moment, I am dying during this course.. My exam 1 was 65% and exam 2 was 55%, I've been running out of time during my exams and the calculation questions/equations kill me more with time. I feel like i prepare, i skim through the chapter, read the summaries, go over the key terms, do the practice tests, but the graded exams seem so much harder, even with the book as a resource. I've read how so many people finish these courses within days saying they're a breeze, yet i'm a full day in with 2 bad exam scores. Not quite sure what im missing.

Has anyone had any experience with this course or similar ones and would be able to share what might have worked for you?

Also, has anyone ever failed a SL course and have to retake it? Kinda curious how that would work, just in case. They say it's your average score between the first attempt and retake, not sure if all the tests will be different or not though.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

seanmathews,

Unfortunately 6 weeks ago I was in the same predicament with the SL Managerial Accounting class. This class was by far the most frustrating class or test I have experienced. Prior to this I had completed all other Accounting and Business Finance tests/classes and had never had an issue with time management or subject matter on quizzes or tests. The SME goes out of their way on this one to make the quiz/test questions difficult to the point of trickery.

It get worse with the final which carries 2x the weight of any other test and allows only half of the time to complete (and is proctored). I did send several letters to SL on this point along with numerous questions regarding answers being marked incorrect. They were responsive but it sounds like nothing has changed.

I did re-take the class to spite SL Smile and wound up passing. Total time for both tries was two weeks. First score 69%, second time 72% avg. = 70.5%.

Recommendations
- Make sure you are using the 9th edition listed in the syllabus. I used the 8th edition and initially missed some text specific questions.
- Utilize the companion website which features additional Powerpoints The Changing Role of Managerial Accounting in a Dynamic Business Environment.
- Save all Powerpoint presentations within the lessons as they are a great resource during the open book quizzes/exams.
- Use stickies to mark chapters and summaries for reference during the tests. Saves a little time.
- Save all quizzes and tests in a file for review. I even did this for the proctored final when I was done the first time.
- Take advantage of the one page of notes allowed for the proctored final by including all formulas for quick reference. The final is 50%+ math problems.
- The quizzes and tests were different the second time around but contained a lot of the same material.

If I didn't make it on the second go around I was going to take the Penn Foster class but I lucked out.

Hope this helps and Good Luck!
