I know that if a school grants PLA credit, other schools may not recognize that credit too. Has anyone heard of real-world examples or had PLA credit recognized elsewhere? I am wondering if it's fairly unlikely to be recognized or if it's there's a somewhat decent chance it would be recognized.

I think that some schools outsource their PLA stuff to a 3rd party that is akin to a foreign transcript evaluation service. I forget which of the Big 3 uses (or used) this. If something like that is used, I expect the credit would possibly be transferable to another school that uses the same service for PLA.

Oh yeah, LearningCounts. That would be a good option. I think they might not be taking new students anymore.

LearningCounts, yes. Excelsior college is the one from the Big 3 that uses them for PLA...
To answer your question, PLA at one school doesn't automatically transfer the credit to another school. They'll do another PLA on their end and yes, more fees involved. The only exception usually are the ones with an AAS transferring into a Bachelors degree, the PLA just fits the free electives without a need for another evaluation.
