Hello everyone,
Quick question to all whom have been through the awesome workouts of P90X and Insanity: My friend hooked me up with these two workout programs; I have experimented with each respectively for a little over a month in each program, and found each to focus on different parts: P90x is more of muscle building (thus muscle confusion), but you still lose a considerable amount of weight from it at the expense of much more dedication through 1 hour to an hour and a half workouts.
While on the other hand, Insanity is primarily focused on endurance training at a much more fast paced cardio schedule.
So the question arose to me... should I combine these two workout programs in anyway or keep them separate? Or do a particular program before the other one?
Also, any great diet suggestions in cordination with each program?
Thanks for all whom reply to this thread! Much appreciative!
Kind Regards,

My wife and I did P90X for a while after the "original" Power 90, and yes it is "muscle building". We did Insanity at work a few times and it is crazy cardio. Two different approaches, two different results.
IMO P90X is body building. Once I met the king of all real strength building exercises I was hooked.
Be enlightened. hilarious
Plus, a routine focused around squats can be done in 45 minutes if you don't wait around. And it will destroy body fat, slap on loads of muscle, spike testosterone, and generally make you look and feel like you mean business.

A guy I know had a weight problem for many years and lost it all on p90x and built muscle too.
I have never used it. I do my own high intensity workout focused on building muscle in a short time frame. I can do a chest or biceps workout or any body part in about ten minutes.
I do one exercise for the body part, such as bench press for chest. Do a warmup or two being careful not to pre exhaust the muscle. Then do a heavy set to failure with about ten reps. Then sit for thirty five seconds and do it again. Take another thirty five seconds rest and repeat this for four mini sets and you are done with chest.
Your reps will probably look like 10,6,4,3 as there's is minimal time to recover.
The important thing is that you must have 100% intensity and go to positive failure each mini set or you will be cheating yourself out of a great workout.
As you get stronger you will be able to do more reps, so just increase the weight to keep the reps in the right range.

Doctors and exercise experts will tell you that for ultimate benefits and the least chance of injury you should not work or stress the same muscle groups more often than every other day. So if you do P90 on M, W & F you can do Insanity T, Th & S with Sun off for rest. This way you benefit from both types of activity, both are important for good health. This will maximize your benefits from both and minimize your chance of injury. It may also decrease your boredom. Switching activities also keeps your body from getting too used to the activity so it keeps working at the optimal levels possible. Regardless, any activity is important to good health, so do what makes you feel the best and what you can keep motivated to do.
On a side note, I have looked at puchasing P90, but the expense has prevented it. I'm glad to know it is a beneficial program.

My goals and objectives are to have a beach body by the time I hit college in August! I am in pretty good shape at the moment-5.10'' tall and a bigger guy but able to tackle even the most difficult exercises that slimmer guys cant lolz (i.e. my friends whom have hardcore abs). Although I am around 190 pounds, I have muscle in my arms, calves, thighs, and just want to get rid of the small chumb on my stomach (I am more muscle base than fat). Trying to find a nice diet plan as well? I'm considering on doing P90X first with my home bros then Insanity! Thanks for all the assistance everyone and motivation! To answer your question though... I am looking to tone up while at the same time build muscle and lose some weight.
Sincerely,

My wife keeps telling me to get in shape. I tell her that I am in shape, "Round" is a shape. milelol: I owe it to the Beer90X program.
I've been focusing on toning and weight loss, no muscle building. I eventually want to try one of those programs, but for now I do what's been working for me and keeping me in shape.
Run(at own pace)/walk treadmill,
Pushups-elevated, regular, wide/close hand,
Dips
Pullups
Ab Wheel workout
Planks
crunches
rope climbing
I have a back injury from parachuting so I try not to over do it.

For a beach body you need to take advice from those with a beach body IMHO.
Go to the gym and find the guy that has the body you want and live his life. No joke.
If he has a personal trainer, ask that trainer.
A couple of rules of thumb. You will not be able to gain more than 4-5 pounds of muscle per year without steroids and growth hormone.
You can easily lose 10lbs a year in fat. Fat is much easier to lose than muscle is to gain so if you want abs, focus on diet and cardio while keeping your protein intake high enough to maintain your existing muscle.
Yes don't work out the same body part every day. That would be counterproductive.
Building muscle mass is based on tearing down muscle fibers through highly intense workouts with maximum weight in a safe controlled manner. So break down the biceps, fuel them with rest and protein and repeat 4-5 days later at the least.
For a beach body, eat no carbs after 5pm period. This is a must. Wake up in the morning and do cardio on an empty stomach. After cardio have some coffee and protein rich breakfast. Keep fiber intake high. Have chicken breast and broccoli for dinner and drink plenty of water.
Cut out beer and soda and chips and fries totally.
Good luck.

Having done P90, P90-Master Series, and doing P90X, I would suggest P90X for one round at least with a focus on low fat, low carb diet plan.

Thanks for the insight on nutrition! I am working out everyday with a group of guys on P90X atm with a balanced diet... but still trying to convince the group to work out in the morning seeing that you lose about 3 times the amount of calories since your body is attacking the fat cells directly after you sleep. Much appreciative again for all the information!
