Open Universities around the world
#1
Wikipedia has a list of open universities.

I checked out the prices of some of these international open universities for international students. Some of them seem like pretty good deals!

University of South Africa: $1,000 is the dissertation fee only. There are also module and paper fees (charged per module and per paper). An MBA at Unisa, for example, would run you around $14,000.

It's great to look up Wikipedia for info, but, I would supplement that with extra research to decipher if the course content, degree, institution, etc is what you're looking for. As a reference, each source would be a valuable resource, but having extra info would make the decision clear for you to decide your pathway. You want to look at the whole picture and complete the needed requirements for the credentials accordingly.

Other degrees are cheaper than the MBA. What is your point?

I'm South African. I studied at Unisa so I have first-hand experience of how their fee structure works. You won't find any Masters in South Africa, let alone at Unisa, for $1,000. Not sure why you feel the need to be defensive.

Update: France also has a distance learning system for degrees known as CNED (cned.fr). It appears open to international students outside France, but it also seems to only be in French. Some websites mention that CNED also has programs in English, but I couldn't find any myself.

I have read many stories about inconsistent exam marking and communication problems at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Their budget per student is a fraction of that of UoPeople. Perhaps a natural consequence of offering degrees at £60/year (domestic student rate), that's hardly going to be enough to cover the costs without sacrificing the quality of instruction. I am not saying it is all bad, though. I would like to hear if anyone on this forum has experience with IGNOU, and how it was.

France lets university students apply for citizenship after two years of residency.  Wish I spoke French.
