Online Courses @ University of Phoenix - Opinions?
#1
It looks like I can take courses at the University of Phoenix for $250 per credit hour (military dependent rate).  They have an upper-level genetics course that would kill two birds w/ one stone for my BA in Biology, as genetics is a requirement for my degree *and* I need all the upper-level credits I can get.

The genetics course is 5-weeks long & that alone sounds amazing to me.  I'm not sure if it's a test-heavy course or if it requires lots of research papers instead (which I would prefer), but I'm curious to know if anyone has taken online courses through the University of Phoenix.

Are there any con's that I'm not aware of?

Thanks, guys!

They don't have a great reputation - but if you're only taking 1 course, it probably won't hurt.

Study.com has a Genetics course, and it's certainly a lot less. But only if you're going to one of the schools which takes ACE.

It is - but the UL part seemed secondary to just finding a course that would work.  $100 vs. $750 is a big difference, and the UL courses can be found elsewhere for less as well.

It was just a suggestion.  A cost saver.

Yeah, I'm thinking that $250 per credit hour is the "going rate" for most upper-level science courses. I haven't found them cheaper anywhere else - even at local universities. So, a 5-week course in genetics - that knocks out two birds with one stone (genetics + 3 upper-level credits) sounds like it might be a winner to me. Smile I just wish they had a syllabus I could peek at before committing to the course.

250 per credit hour is the going rate for SOCNAV and military partnership schools who want to convince a military student to use their tuition assistance at their school. Even the "big 3" are military partner schools and that drops the avg per class tuition to 750 per class not including books. This is about half what EC normally charges for a class so its really a great offer if its available to you.

I would search around the internet some. There have to be a TON of students who have taken UOP courses and lived to write about it on the net. I'm sure it will transfer in just fine.

U of Phoenix course will likely work just fine. I think I took 8 Shmoop University courses in one month for $80. $10 per course is less than $750.
