Good evening all,
I heard of a one-time allowance (or something to that effect) that's available alongside TA, meant for pursuing certifications and other non-credit tests that's available for military members, to a maximum amount of $4500.
What I'm curious about is what is it called, and if it is indeed available, what type of certifications would any of you recommend that have taken it?
The education office here on my base brought it up, but referred me to another person to answer questions about it, who unfortunately was already gone for the day this past Friday before I could ask.

Aren't you a business major? I would look for something related to business that doesn't require experience if you don't have it. I like the Enrolled Agent designation. The CISSP is also good if you have 5 years of experience in two of their domains. PMP is excellent if you have the experience. If you plan on working in safety, then there is the CSP. There is the PSP and CPP for physical security. CEM is for emergency management.

Are you in the Air Force? if so, log into the AF Portal, then under "Education/Training/Force Dev" links go to "AFVEC - Air Force Virtual Education Center". There will be a big box that says how much TA you have left for that year, and how much ($4500) you have left for certifications.
When i first joined in 2005 it was $10k, i should have taken advantage of that then. not sure when it changed.

I am. What I'm curious about is what exactly falls within the realm of what's acceptable for the certs. At this point I'm looking into what sanantone posted, as a lot of it sounds fascinating to me.
