Okay to start Python 101

I recently completed my Sophia Calculus course. I have about 3 weeks left on my account and would like to use the rest of the time to complete "Intro to Python Programming" to satisfy my TESU BA CS Intro Programming requirement. On the Wiki, they recommend clearing with an academic advisor before you transfer it. I can't meet with an academic counselor until Dec 10th (6 days from now) which cuts into my valuable subscription at Sophia.

Is it okay to start Intro to Python Programming at Sophia before getting cleared by a TESU counselor? I would prefer to not pay another $99 to Sophia and knock out both courses in one month.

It seems LevelUp and others recommend SDC instead of Sophia because of the layover with Data Structures. If that's true, then I may just start SDC and leave Sophia at Calculus. What are your all thoughts on this?

All I need to Comp Sci core at TESU and 6 UL electives to graduate. Getting familiar with SDC may make more sense.

I haven't done study.com but I thought it was java based, not python

You can email advising, and they will get back to you within 24 hours. Be sure to include your student ID and major. Let them know you want to "plan" to take that Sophia course, and they'll add it to your evaluation if it meets the requirement.

You can also take the SDC Intro to Programming course for free—just don't take the exam, and you won't have to pay for it. This is a good option if you want to complete the course or simply review some of the material.

Ultimately, the choice is yours.

SDC data structures was Java when I did it a little less than 2 years ago.  But maybe they're saying just do intro to programming in Java through SDC instead of trying to get a python course counted as intro to programming.

Yes I am leaning towards SDC Intro to Programming because of the Data Structures overlap. I will wait until Dec 10th for the meeting with the academic counselor to confirm that all I need is SDC classes to graduate. I should just need Core Classes and 6 UL CS credits but I am done with Calculus!

Consider looking at the Coursera.org wiki we have here. You can do Intro to Python courses alongside completing other ACE credits. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Coursera
Additionally, it would be cheaper than $99 dollars if you did Coursera. They charge $49 a month for membership, but they offer a free trial for 7 days. For many of them (including the IBM and Google certs), if you complete them within the free trial, they're yours. Plus, if you use a VPN for Google certs, you can get some certs for $12 if your VPN is set to India. There is so much potential with Coursera for you.

There are a few options and ways to get this done, transfer the max from Coursera, Sophia.org, Study.com, alternative credit providers, review degree plans from the WIKI and make a spreadsheet for reference and tracking purposes etc... I would also try to get some advice from both the academic advisors from the institution and also some advice from the Study.com Degree Planners, plus get a freebie month for 2 classes at Study.com... I am in the process of finishing the BACS at TESU. I have applied to graduate in March 25.

Another option for the intro to programming course is onlinedegree.com. It is free and transfers to TESU. Be forewarned though, don't expect to actually learn anything from the course. If is just videos and quizzes. There's a way to fast forward the videos by inspecting the button or clicking F12. It makes things much easier as the videos are long and not very useful.

I do recommend SDC for Operating systems (take 105 not 305), architecture, data structures and discrete math. You can't really get these easily anywhere else.

Coursera is also a great source of credits. Make sure to do Google cloud data analytics. This gets you 2 UL courses for the AOS. IBM's full stack will get you another UL course as well. For the fourth UL course, I recommend system analysis at study.com.

I also did the data science course from IBM and used the SQL course from that for lower level. My remaining LL courses came from the above coursera certs.

As you go through the wiki, make sure that you remember that the CYB and DSI courses do not count towards a CS degree.
