Ohio U credit by examination?
#1
I see plenty of (mostly older) threads mentioning Ohio U credit by examination for a bunch of courses, including higher-level math (Calc III, Diff-Eq, Linear Algebra). I looked into it on their website and it doesn't seem to have as much as people are saying. Am I missing something, or have they reduced their options for this? This is the list I found on their site: OHIO eCampus

Thanks.

This forum is a great resource. I'm planning on pursuing a BA in CS and math from TESC starting as soon as I figure everything out.

They've limited their options. I don't know if any of the CSU Global CBEs would be of any use to you, but they're cheaper than Ohio U.

Thanks. I did already stumble upon CSU, and it looks to be a good source for a few UL CS electives. Shame that there doesn't seem to be a source of credit-by-exam for Calc III/Diff Eq/Linear Algebra anymore. I might have to do some community college tomfoolery instead for those.

how about these independent study courses

Calculus III | Online & Distance Education, UND

College Credit Courses | Online & Distance Education, UND

a lot more expensive than an exam, but its sill better than going to class

I took some of Ohio U's credit-by-exam options about a decade ago. The cost then was about half of what it is now, and they had far more options then. If there's a particular exam you're interested in, let me know and I'll see if I took it and if I can remember anything specific. I can tell you that I do remember that you need the exact textbook and the exact edition of that textbook. I had one test where I had used the previous edition to study, but a short essay question referenced one of the photos in the textbook, which wasn't in my edition. Seriously. I've taken a couple of UExcels and several TECEPs, and I'd recommend either one of those over the Ohio U exams - they're less expensive, and in my opinion, much easier. For example, the Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia exam had a question requiring me to draw a map showing the territories in the realm of a certain ancient king. And it's not like they told me in advance which king it would be, only that there would be a map question. (The current description of that exam doesn't look like that's still required, though.) On a more positive note, the Ohio U transcript does not indicate that the courses were completed by exam, so they just look the same as regular courses.

I can vouch for UND as an excellent resource for any serious student.
