TESC didn't accept my ECE/UEXCEL Adulthood and Aging!?!
#1
Hi Everyone,

I'm embarrassed to say this is my first post. I have completed 8 Straighterline Classes, 4 Cleps, 5 ECEs, 2 DSSTs, and 2 Alex courses, all because of the great advice on this forum. I'm so grateful and once I get this mess straightened out, I will be sure to post my success story.

Last week I finished my final Straighterline class and the transcript was sent to TESC. In my mind, that was it, I had completed my degree 26 years after I started it. Xmas eve, I received the email from TESC that they have my graduation application and the review committee would start evaluations on December 23rd. I knew when I looked at my academic evaluation that there would be 3 blanks not yet filled in. The two English courses (completed December 18th) and the Group 3 psychology elective. After a mix up regarding how many UL classes I needed, I took The ECE/UExcel Adulthood and Aging test on November 21st. It showed that TESC had received that transcript on December 9th but for some reason it wasn't yet transcribed.

I looked at my AE again, at the bottom it said:
12/09/13 The UEXCEL exam: Psychology of Adulthood and Aging that was completed is not a UEXCEL exam accepted by Thomas Edison

How can this be? Does anyone know if they have changed their policy? I am freaking out! I immediately wrote to the advisor I had been working with and she is out of the office until Jan 6th. Luckily, I have an email from 11/19 that I wrote, specifically stating I was taking the ECE AandA test; if for some reason they are no longer accepting it, don't you think someone should have told me not to?

Any ideas or suggestions? As an aside, my second tuition extension will expire December 31st. Thanks for reading such a long post, and thank you in advance for any advice.

There isn't anything you can do until you can talk to an employee. When you do get a chance to talk to someone, make sure they know that ECE has been combined with Uexcel. They might be looking at the ACE website for a Uexcel named Psychology of Adulthood and Aging, but ECE and Uexcel are not yet combined on ACE. As a warning for anyone who has the luxury of being an enrolled student, Uexcels should be pre-approved. Since TESC doesn't keep an equivalency chart for them, there's no guarantee that the Uexcel will be accepted for a requirement or accepted at all.

Normally I'd blame the confusion on a misinformed adviser, but the fact that your transcript was evaluated already(which is done by the registrar) is odd.

It could be some kind of UExcel--ECE mix up. The two are different somehow and are sometimes confused with each other. For example, they will look on the list of EC exams for a test, but it is on the UExcel list.

I would email the registrar and ask about this. The registrar has the final word/decision on course equivalencies, etc.

Thank you Sanantone. Would you suggest the registrar's office or advising?

Thanks ironheadjack....On Xmas Eve, I immediately sent a reply email to the Graduation Records Specialist (that is who sent the generic graduation acknowledgement).
I just hope my inquiries/concerns get to the right person. I will follow up with a call once the offices open next week.
At least the stress will keep me from eating more holiday goodies. Smile

Don't have any good advice other than what's already been posted, but I just wanted to say I hope all of this works out in your favor. That must be a truly awful feeling. I hope it's just a simple mistake like sanantone described.

I guess you should try the registrar since they have the final word like Ironheadjack said. If they say no, then you can try petitioning the dean of the Heavin School of Arts and Sciences.

Bickreca how did you turn out?

I wanted to have written confirmation before I gave an update...but I think it all worked out. It's been difficult to get a definitive answer about why it was an issue, but I did receive an email on the 8th that notified me my academic evaluation was updated. It showed credit for the test and all requirements complete. So, just hoping to get that confirmation of graduation letter in the mail any day now.
Has anyone else who applied for Jan graduation received their letter?
Again, thanks for the interest and all the help everyone here has given me.
