New member but loving it here, I have a question about Marketing
#1
Hello members, as listed above I am new here and read alot of the posts and did some searching. However, I did not see the answer to my question so I figured perhaps I would post it here.
I have the marketing testing coming up this weekend, so I need anything else to past this test other then the flashcards by InstantCert.
It would be most helpful from the members that have completed this test already.
Time is getting low so I wanted to know if I need anything else.

Thanks and ioulove

Take a look at the suggested linked resources in the Exam-Specific Feedback forum. If you're a paid subscriber accessing the flashcards, at the top of the forum here, click the main "Forum" link...and you'll see it as the fifth selection, "Specific Exam Feedback - InstantCert Subscribers ONLY." There are threads for each of the major exams, so look for the thread specifically for this CLEP and read the responses, particularly the most current ones, to see what concepts the current version of the exam tends to focus. Make sure you understand the highlighted concepts inside and out. If you do not have a lot of business experience already, you may want to browse some other resources, even if it's Googling the terms themselves for more detail, or reading their Wiki entries.

It isn't a tough test, though. If you do have business experience and were able to connect the dots and grasp the concepts glimpsed in the flashcards, IC is enough to pass. It's all I used (along with the specific feedback guides).

Since you've only got the week to prepare, the flashcards are they only resource you'll be able to obtain before the weekend. I'm taking a marketing course right now and I wish I'd have taken the flashcards and done the test in the CLEP instead. If you pass you'll be delighted if not you've got six months to prepare for the next one. Good luck
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum : InstantCert Plus of course your hard work in learning and reviewing

I haven't taken this one yet, but I have heard that this is a good, free supplementary resource for this test:

Study Time: How I Did It…

Pre-Study-Prep: Obtain or set up whatever materials I will need to study (IC Flashcards, REA Books, Standard Deviants Videos, Pass-Your-Class Guides, and Petersons Practice Exams.

Week One: Begin to read books, review flashcards, watch videos. Call your test center and make an appointment in advance as they sometimes require a few weeks advance notice).

Week Two: Re-read books, review flashcards, watch videos Take 1-2 practice exams* (REA, Petersons).

Week Three: Continue to review all materials, take additional/final practice exams. You should be passing these with room to spare. Take real exam at end of the week and PASS. In addition, you should have at this point already acquired pre-study-prep materials for your next exam so as not to waste time.

* It should be noted that there are many (like me) who feel that the practice exams may be a bit more difficult and as such if you are able to "pass" a practice exam (with room to spare) you should do well when you sit the actual exam.

Something Else To Know

FACT: The lowest possible score is a 20. The highest possible is an 80.

FACT: Approx. 1/2 the questions on the test must be successfully answered to get a 50, or a pass.

THE HYPOTHESIS: In a 100 question test, such as Sociology and many others, there are only 60 possible points (between 20-80) for 100 questions.

60 points divided by 100 questions = .6pts

If each questions is worth .6 points, 50 correct questions = 50q X .6pts = 30pts

You must add 20 since 0 correct questions = 20pts.

30 points + 20 points = 50 points, or a pass.

Now: If each point in a 100 question test is worth .6 points, 100 questions X .6 points = 60; 60 + 20 = 80.

By this formula, answering 75 questions correctly would translate to a score of 65.

I might be too late with this, but thought I'd share anyway Smile.
Here's my feedback for the Principles of Marketing CLEP, which I passed with a 72:

My only study source was the REA book. Because I had heard this test was pretty easy, I didn't push too hard with studying. I spent an hour or two over the course of about 5 days reading through the book, writing down the definitions to help me remember them. The day before the test I took the first REA Practice Test, and only scored 68%, getting a number of questions that I hadn't heard of those terms before! I felt the questions were worded a little awkwardly too. Not only that, the score calculator on the CD-ROM said that 68% = a 50. Then I got really nervous and started frantically looking over the IC flashcards trying to figure out what I had missed. I only made it through the first four sections. I finally took the OCSG test and scored 81% (highly recommended resource!). I was very surprised to receive a score on the actual test of 72! I am so thankful to the Lord for guiding me through this one!

There were more international-related questions than were covered in the REA book. Once you know the terms and concepts, a lot of this exam was common sense...there were a lot of questions that I just went through and eliminated all the answers I knew couldn't be right. Pay attention to all of the words in the questions. There was one question in the REA test that was asking which era a business with a particular strategy was from. Since it mentioned producing, I chose the "Production Era." When going through the answer explanations, however, it pointed out all of the times the word "sell" was mentioned, thus it was from the "Sales Era." Very glad to be done, but it was an interesting subject. To future test-takers, I would recommend, to feel more comfortable, using a combination of REA and IC. But if you understand the concepts, obviously REA can be your main study source .

Thank you all for the great answers. I had to push the test back since I had some personal issues I had to address. I just called the school and I will be taking the test Saturday.
