New TESU Residency Requirement!!! 16cr, TECEP's do not count?!?
Utilizing Alek, Saylor, and the waiver fee may be a good strategy for some people in the future.

It's fine for future students. It's more expensive than the old Per Credit Tuition Plan, but cheaper than the Enrolled Options Plan. It doesn't help me because I'm almost finished with my degree and don't have $2,000 to give them. I only have six credits toward the residency requirement now and am registered for nine more to put me at 15. Even if they drop the residency requirement down to 16 credits for me, I will still have to pay $499 for a 1-credit course, which is more expensive than taking three more TECEPs.

I just got off the phone, and they said that my residency requirement will go down to 16, but I'm still not happy about having to register for a 1-credit course. It's too late for me to register for a 1-credit TECEP and have it count.

Today I spoke with an advisor about this issue. I am also sitting short at 15. The good news is that we do only need one more credit. But how?

I am in the same boat as you. I assume that our teceps registered for in the May term will still count for residency, but this is TESU so I am going to try and get it in writing.

couldn't you do the one credit cornerstone for $300?

The website says the cornerstone is not included in the Per Credit Tuition Plan. I don't know if that means that it doesn't count toward the residency requirement.

perhaps that is because of the special pricing (300 instead of 499) I can't imagine a cornerstone class taken through them wouldn't count. With your mad skills you could knock out this course in your sleep!

I think that just means that it's not included in the (free) price of the plan, just as it says textbooks aren't covered by the plan. Further down the page it says "One-time tuition for the course is $300 (not included in the Per Credit Tuition Plan)". The cornerstone itself still isn't listed as a requirement and isn't available in the catalog, and probably won't be until after May. Someone said in this thread or another that the course itself isn't completed yet.

You'll have to take their Cornerstone course ($300), Capstone ($525 x 3 = $1,575), pay the $75 application fee, and the the $323 graduation fee, and probably something I'm forgetting. This is roughly $2,273. You're only other costs would be the costs of courses and tests from CLEP, DSST, StraighterLine, ALEKS, etc. At around $100 per course that is ~$4,000 (assuming 40 courses @ 3 credit hours each). That's ~$6,273 if the Residency Waiver fee is $0. Still... a four year degree for under $10,000 is a bargain.

Sorry if this has already been posted. Haven't read though the entire thread yet.
I called TESU. They said the residency waver fee is $2000 on top of all the other fees you need to account for.
Couldn't tell me if the GI Bill would cover it.
With that in mind I am changing all my stuff over to Excelsior. At least for my AS.
I don't think I'll be changing my BS anymore. We'll see how this all works out.

I've called TESU a few times now, as well as Excelsior to move towards getting a degree with one of them. Excelsior > TESU in friendliness and responding to calls/e-mails.
DSST - Technical Writing - 441
CLEP - College Composition - 69

Can only test out of 2 more classes for my degree:
CLEP - Analyzing and Interpreting Literature - TBD

It depends on what degree you're getting, but getting a business degree at TESU is still cheaper than Excelsior. The BSBA at TESU comes in at under $5,000.
