cbosdell Wrote:I totally skipped over that when I read the email. Thank you for pointing that out! It still says 24 credits are needed for residency on my academic evaluation. I'm guessing it just hasn't been updated. I'm not sure if I should bring that up with an adviser to double confirm or just go with their reply.
It looks like we are pretty much in the same boat. The only problem with taking another is the system won't let you register for more than 15 credit hours per term without approval from an adviser. I tried registering for one more TECEP yesterday and got that message. I'm thinking about contacting them tomorrow to ask for approval but I'm not sure how much trouble they'll give me.
You might want to double check with an advisor to make doubly sure you know how many Residency credits you'll be required to have -- if they know. I received an email from my advisor the end of this past week, and she clearly stated I had a Residency requirement of 24 credits, was signed up to take 4 TECEPs, and will need to take enough more to equal 24. I do know TESU is notorious for not having every employee /dept on the same page, so whether it was accurate that I still need 24 cr or not, I don't know.
I ran into the same 15 cr limit problem with registering for more TECEPs. I need to take two more for my Residency numbers, but have a crazy busy summer coming up, so am not sure how many I can really handle. I guess registering for more than I "need" will give some breathing room if I don't pass them all.

I'm going to go under the assumption that the residency requirement of 24cr is still valid, since that's what it says on my eval. I can't imagine that they're going to switch to the 16cr non-TECEP's needed, but then allow me to take TECEP's for it.

This is the message I received from the Associate Registrar. I'm still trying to get clarification because the website says that we stay under the residency requirements of the catalog under which we enrolled.
Quote:Effective 1 April, all TECEP and PLA credit earned (or underway) through 3/31/16 would count towards credit requirement. TECEPs and PLA taken after this date would not count towards the residency requirement for any student; new, current or returning. I hope that answers your question. Thanks!
I called the registrar's office, and she says that she's reading from the policy that currently enrolled students will not be grandfathered in. If they are not going to grandfather us in with the TECEPs and PLAs, then we should only have to meet the 16 credit residency requirement. The employee told me to email academicappeals@tesu.edu. I did tell them I would be filing a complaint with New Jersey's Higher Education Department for changing catalogs on enrolled students.

So now that I'm re-enrolling in TESC after not renewing my enrollment in 2014 and going on the Per Credit Tution plan, I have to pay $2,000 Residency Waiver if I'm not doing 24 total credits at TESC in my plan? At what point do I pay this fee--after transferring in all my courses?
And what is this:
" Special Assessment Fees"
Individual Learning Account (formerly known as Credit Banking)
They're now charging for transferring in CLEP/DSST/Straighterline credits?

That's the credit banking fee. If you're an enrolled student, you aren't credit banking.

Wow, this is completely different than what others were told up thread. Consistent answers would be nice before I spend all that money on TECEPS. If I have to pay the residency fee so be it but if I can push through those TECEPs to avoid the fee that would be preferable. Hopefully a definitive answer will be provided before the registration deadline for May term.

The website says that students will have to meet the residency requirements of their catalog year, but it doesn't say that the methods for meeting the residency requirement will remain the same. In other words, we have to meet the 24 credit residency requirement that's in the old catalogs, but we are being held under the standards of the new catalog on which methods we can use. It's not right. If they're going to make us follow the new rules on what we can use, then they should drop the residency requirement down to 16 credits.

I was told today that they had just sorted this all out.
This information came in an apologetic email:
Since I will technically renroll next February in order to keep enrollment current, I will now only have to complete 16 credits to fulfill the residency requirement.
BUT, all of my past TECEP's will count towards residency, as well as the two I am already registered for. So, with the Capstone I will be well over the 16 credits needed for residency.
Seems like the best of both worlds and I confirmed in a follow up email.
At this point I just have to move forward and stop worrying. At least I have something in writing.

I was told the same thing today after contacting TESU again to confirm what I had been told last Friday about only needing a total of 16 credits from TESU to establish residency and that TECEPs would count through the May term only. I'm going to start focusing on gathering my materials and starting to study for my first exam.
