New TESU Residency Requirement!!! 16cr, TECEP's do not count?!?
#91
I have applied to TESU. I have not started taking classes. So this means I have to take 16 credit hours to graduate? I am not gradfathered in? I am 12 credit hours away from graduation.

If you are an applicant but not enrolled yet, then you are subject to the catalog that you're enrolled under.

If you end up being 2016/17, then you have the option of paying the $2,000 residency waiver in addition to your capstone. That would be your cheapest option.

The quote is taken directly from this web page Thomas Edison State University | Per Credit Tuition Plan

This screams of the FEMA fisaco, where phonecalls and emails to TESU gave the information that FEMA would no longer be accepted in transfer from March 2014. Instead they did accept FEMA for a couple of months more, the FEMAs are on people's evaluations who applied to TESU after March 2014; but only the ones that were TAKEN before March 2014.

Personally I'd plod on as quickly as you can until something actually changes on your plan, or you're contacted by TESU regarding a change to your plan. However, it wouldn't hurt to have a PLAN B just incase.

I am enrolled under the 2012/2013 catalog, which I just looked at. There is no mention of the Per Credit Tuition plan. It seems that started in the 2013/2014 catalog year. I have completed 2 teceps and am currently enrolled for my 3rd one. I have an email sent off to the academic advising dept to double check that I am currently enrolled in the Per-Credit Plan, but I'm afraid that will change to the new PC plan on 4/1 since it is not mentioned in my catalog year. I can't really find anything about changing to another catalog year other than possibly changing to the current year. That would throw my whole degree plan off since they had a major change in 2014 I think. I agree - this sounds like a fiasco in the making. Why give students under this plan only 3 days notice.

If I'm under the July 2016 catalog can I still pay the 2000 residency waiver or is that just for people enrolling under the 2017 catalog?

I am also wondering the same but if you send an email to TESU they will simply change you to 2017 catlog instead of answering your question.

Same here. One of the reasons I always hated emailing them was if I asked a question they took it as a statement of fact and then I would have to argue with them to get them to reverse what ever they did.

You might have to start the email with "PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE MY CATALOG, I'm just asking a question." And then ask the question! Sad that you have to do that, but there it is!

I've had this happen as well.
BSBA/Accounting TESU (2016). MSA UIUC (2018).

Need help with portfolios? I earned 18 credits at TESU through portfolio evaluations. Nine of those were for upper level accounting courses. My advice for PLA/portfolios: TESU portfolio tips The first post has the Portfolio Checklist I created. Page ten has the actual narrative I wrote to receive credit for ACC-440.

Using Straighterline's Financial Accounting as a substitute for TESU's Intermediate Accounting I? Don't do it if you are an accounting major and/or want your CPA license. They are not the same course and I think TESU has erred in accepting the SL course as Intermediate I. I made this discovery here: Intermediate Accounting II.

Although I believe the website has clarified the issue, my email communications this afternoon with the Registrars office lead me to believe that everyone at TESU is not on this same page.

They finally responded this afternoon to an email I had sent over the weekend. It says they have not yet made a decision regarding the residency requirement being grandfathered under the catalog year one is enrolled under.

I realize this is typical for TESU, but is frustrating.
Yes they do tend to jump the gun in response to questions. Luckily for me it was nothing worse than tests I only asked about being added as planned on my eval.
