Today, Amberton University emailed me that there's a new graduate certificate program beginning this summer. It is Training and Development.

Beginning with the fall term at Amberton University, they will be adding a new master's degree and 3 new graduate certificates. 

The new master's degree is an MHA (Master of Healthcare Administration):

I don’t think you can get a job as a healthcare administrator without healthcare experience anyways…unless we’re counting insurance companies as part of the healthcare industry

Honestly, you can and I have seen it in my experience. My previous hospital hired a MBA holder that had no idea why the costs for DI and sterile water were so high. They literally wanted us to use tap water in compounding. It should be a requirement though.

I have been a healthcare provider for nearly 15 years. I have been at over a dozen hospitals during that tenure. You 100% can. In fact, I would say it's a sizeable percentage, and the copious amount of online MHAs don't help.

People who have the Masters in Healthcare Administration are not necessarily health care providers, they're taking business administration classes geared towards the healthcare sector. It would be best to have people who have experience in the healthcare industry to ladder up to the Masters in Healthcare Admin, but many who are not in the industry can be in that capacity as they deal with the business side of things, not patient related care. I'm usually more in favor of moving up from healthcare (patient related) and then moving up to a managerial role as they'll know the ins/outs of how the healthcare unit works, but life doesn't always go the way I would like it...

That is the entire problem.

Sorry, I disagree. The business and clinical sides are ABSOLUTELY intertwined. There is a reason why there are always administrators who do not understand the fallout of their decision making. I have sat in these meetings and the non-clinical admin have ZERO idea what we do, but they are making decisions which directly affect clinical staff. They have no idea about the WHY and often make choices that do not align realistically with the clinical scenario.

Do you want a gas station attendant piloting your plane? That's literally how bad it is.

The other poster gave a great example. The "leader" had no clue about how medications are compounded.
