I have been planning on attending EC for the associates in nursing. I have been doing intermediate algebra via aleks and was hoping to do straighterling a&p. I am not sure now they will be accepted under the new requirements for Oct 1, 2012 -
*Core Degree Requirements - Excelsior College does not accept outside coursework for transfer credit required for core degree requirements. Excelsior provides a listing of its core degree requirements in its degree program catalog provided on its website.
Nursing Programs â The Excelsior College School of Nursing allows students to satisfy up to 25% of the general education degree requirements with StraighterLine courses. This means in Excelsiorâs nursing programs, a maximum of 7 general education credits (2 courses) can apply to Associate degree plans and a maximum of 15 general education credits (approximately 5 courses) can apply to Bachelorâs degree plans.
I am confused. I am assuming SL a&p is now out of the question and not sure of aleks. I have sent them an email to clarify and have not heard back yet. Just wondering if anyone knows. Thanks in advance.

I don't see how you think SL A&P is out? They only require 6 A&P credits, so don't even bother with the Labs. ALEKS is not SL, so I don't see where that restriction comes into play. Do you have a bunch of SL credit? What am I not seeing?

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

To be honest I don't know exactly what is core is considered. I saw another student post that she could not use SL statistics because statistics was a core class. I am assuming a&p is as well? I don't know if the math requirement is core. It is not only SL that Excelsior has placed a limit on, it is all ace credit excluding CLEP and Dantes.
What I posted above was from the SL site, this is from the EC site -
ACE CREDIT's The National Guide to College Credit for Workforce Training
Excelsior College Nursing Programs: The School of Nursing will limit acceptance of credit from these sources to 25% of the general education component toward the degree requirements and no credit from these sources will be accepted for core requirements. Acceptance of credit earned from military training, CLEPÂ, and DANTES examinations will not be limited (for Students enrolling after October 1, 2012).
I was only planning on aleks int algebra and sl a&p (no labs) so I am under the credit limit.

This makes a lot more sense, and is indeed a disappointing turn.

So I am thinking this means ACE credit is pretty much limited to electives now?

The above indicates that 25% of your general education requirement could still be completed with ACE - 15 credits for a bachelors - which shows 61 credits under general education, including electives. The rest of the general education - 46 credits - you can still complete with CLEP and DSST it seems.
BA in Natural Sciences/Mathematics, 2013 - TESC - Arnold Fletcher Award
AAS in Applied Computer Studies, 2013 - TESC
116 B&M Credits
32 FEMA Credits
9 ALEKS Credits - Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trigonometry
9 Straighterline Credits - Business Communication, Microeconomics, English Composition II
6 TESC Credits - Global Environmental Change
3 DSST Credits - Environment and Humanity

My conspiracy theory is that this has something to do with the fact that "The College Network," the super-expensive test prep service hard-sold as a way to get a degree in nursing through Excelsior–but that Excelsior
takes great pains to distance itself from–offers
a small stack of ACE-evaluated exams, in subjects that entirely seem to duplicate CLEP/DSST/ECE exams I thought TCN was selling prep for. (Is TCN's game in offering these exams competing directly with CLEP/DSST/ECE? Or is it offering a fallback for TCN test-prep students who fail the mainstream exams? I wonder about this.)

Can you post a link to Excelsior College website where they say this.
