I was able to whip up a presentation and give it in Spanish to over 300 people.. .and it didn't turn out bad at all! I kept reminding myself of this last night working on the stuff for my class. "If I can make a last minute presentation to a large audience in Spanish turn out well, I can do ANYTHING!"

burbuja0512 Wrote:So first of all before I start my rant about being nervous, I want to mention that my DS passed his Law Enforcement DSST today, which made my entire day and is a great early birthday present for him. He'll be 16 on Sunday and now has 6 college credits. So proud Smile

After coming back from the testing center and being SUPER proud of DS, I decided to log on to see if I was finally able to log into my first MBA class. It officially starts on Monday, but it was supposed to be unlocked to view as of today.

As you can see from my link, my MBA is fully bilingual and while I'm fully fluent in Spanish, the thought of graduate-level Spanish is intimidating. I was really hoping that my first class would be in English. I was SO happy a few weeks ago when I bought my text and saw that it was in English. I breathed a sigh of relief.. after all, wouldn't it be nice to get the hang of MBA assignments in my native language before moving on to something more difficult?

Well.. I just logged in to see the syllabus and it's ALL in Spanish.. assignments, expectations, forum posts, etc... So this makes it much more difficult. I have to read an English book and then translate my thoughts into Spanish for each assignment

I don't know how other people are, but when I speak in English, I think in English. When I speak Spanish, my thoughts are also in Spanish. Translating is much, much more difficult for me. I know I can do this, but it will be a heck of a lot more challenging than I had thought.

SOOOO Nervous

burbuja0512,

Back in March, my work sent out a "survey" inquiring about the education level of admin personnel in certain positions. This came after an admin layoff (economy - seriously, pick up!) so my immediate thought was, "Oh crap, they're going to do it again and are grouping by level of credential." I sat down at the computer that night in a serious self-pity moment and started googling, and stumbled across this forum. I remember reading some of your accomplishments, along with a few other regulars, and it really lifted me out of my funk and lit a fire to get my degree finished so I could get into a higher "layoff" group, or have credentials if I do get that dreaded slip of paper. I lost the link to the forum, but after I was re-enrolled, someone over on the TESC forum linked back, and here you all were, still plugging way and inspiring many of us to get off our backsides and go after it.

You can do it. You've done it before, and motivated many - many more than you'll ever know - to do the same. I don't post a ton and you don't know me, but I wanted to share and say like all the others, I've got faith in you!

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Heck, I couldn't even do it that quickly in English, even if I had a days prep. :imwithstupid: Confusedmilelol:

@ Burbuja You get to read the book in English and then have to work to write in Spanish you are great in both so just relax you will be fine.

The others in your class either have to do the same as you (And they are probably not as great as you) or they have work hard to read the book in English then translate that to write it back in Spanish

You will have to work hard but you knew that, not having both reading or writing in one language makes it fair for all. You will knock this out of the park . "We believe in you:patriot:.

Thank you so much again for the vote of confidence. This thread has been so nice, I am seriously going to cut and paste it and save it somewhere so I can re-read anytime I'm doubting my abilities.

You worry too much B,
For the time that I have known you I know you'll be able to handle this. You're feeling the same way I felt before I started my graduate course. Just get your feet wet with a couple of post and assignments and you'll get the hang of it. At least you can think in English and Spanish, I have to decipher my Spanglish after I do my thinking, if I want to do any translating afterward. hilarious

Writing in Sapnish is wya different then speaking Spanish. My daughter the Bio/Chem major has a Spanish minor and I bought her software to help do her papers. Made a very big difference on the amount of time she had to spend doing her work.
