Does it matter what degree?

I am open to a broad range. Would actually prefer something like humanities or history, but I have a lot of IT and business credits so figured majors along those lines would be most cost-effective. I will look into UMPI and WGU.

If you take 6 courses (18 credits) from TESU directly (which is cornerstone + capstone + 4 additional courses) you can avoid the residency waiver fee and only pay $4,639 flat-rate tuition + graduation fee of $298 for a total of $4,937 ($3,877 in-state) plus whatever you pay for courses taken elsewhere.

Ok, so assuming my TESU requirements remain the same (but no longer having the Cornerstone exemption):


I need to complete 10 courses. Intro to marketing, Intro to Management, Managerial Communications, and International Management. I can do Saylor for 2 of those ($50). I can do Study for 2 of them ($199).
That leaves Cornerstone and Capstone, and a mix of 4 courses covering Man/Mar/Act/Fin. Those 6 can be done online at TESU for $4639.
I have one transcript that will need to be sent ($35), and grad fee ($298).

$50 + $199 + $4639 + $35 + $298 = $5221 plus books. And I HAD met the requirements for the associates, so maybe that could be rolled in. It's not necessary to get it, but it does have some $ value to me.

As long as you don't already have an associates from somewhere else it should roll right in but you need to apply for both at the same time to have only one graduation fee.

$5k is a fair amount of money for the average person but it is far cheaper than many other options and having the degree is going to be better than not. I think it's a good plan.

You're right, it certainly isn't outrageous. 5 upper-level TESU courses in one semester is a bear, though.

True.  I've found that the 6 module classes with stuff due every two weeks are manageable.  The 8 module classes with stuff due every single *&^% week push you to exhaustion.  It doesn't make any sense.  There is absolutely no reason for the stuff to always be due on the same day of the week.  Make the days between assignments equal.

I dropped one class and took it at Study.com even though I only got 50% of my money back because the first three weeks were so much work it was just stupid.  It took me two days on SDC.

Ran a BA-Liberal Studies eval, with 2020-2021 catalog, and that path has me being 6 classes short of the degree, versus 10 short for the BS-General Management. So $4972 plus books.

BA- History is 7 short.

Well, looked into University Of The People. I would need to earn a lot more credits. And the cost is rather high, IMO. Assuming I can transfer in 72 credits:

Application $60 + Transcripts $35 (or more) + Course transfer fees $408 (24 x $17) + UotP course fees $1880 (16 courses) + Saylor courses $150 ($25 x 6) + UotP proctoring $200 (might be able to get for $0) = $2733 !

Just don't know about that, for an NA degree with a funny name on it. Plus having to go through 16 eight-week-plus UotP courses with assignments and homework, and having to grade other people's work. Yeah, doesn't look so appealing now.

When you log into your TESU OSS and check your profile, does it show inactive and has a date? Or does it show Corp Partnership and also has a date? What does it show on your side? I think your profile is inactive and you just need to reactivate it by completing a TECEP, that will enroll you for another year.

You have so many options, you can go for the usual competency based degree providers or the Big 3. For the price, the COSC BSLS might be best suited for your educational goal of just getting the parchment. I would look at COSC as an option for test-out-able degrees or Brandman for competency based degree.

Oh I believe you get what you pay for for the most part. UotP is an amazing concept. It's phenomenal for certain parts of the world where access to education is extraordinarily limited. In the US, I don't feel it's as valuable. Yes it's inexpensive, but there are caveats with that. It takes 4 years. You're on a semester schedule. You have to grade other student's work so you're doing work. There is no way to accelerate. It doesn't seem super transfer friendly. TESU, EC, and COSC may all be better options. Same with WGU and NAU. These 2 don't accept as many credits as the Big 3, but they're still viable options for many people.
