Need to choose 2
#1
Hello,

I've been looking at the forum and have found good info, but i would like to know your opinions. Out of Western Civ I, Western Civ II, Vietnam War, World Religions, and Soviet Union which 2 tests would you take?

Also factor in the differences between CLEP and DSST, I have yet to take either.

Thanks everyone,
MJ

Each person's mileage varies, but after having taken them all, I'd rank them in this order of difficulty from least to most difficult:

World Religions
Western Civ II
Western Civ I
Vietnam War
Soviet Union

If I had to take only two, I, being something of a history person, would pick Western Civ I & II. I have only taken Intro to World Religions and Western Civ I at present. Both of them were easier than I expected.

With IC, any of these tests are doable, but I wouldn't try the Vietnam or USSR exams unless you have a particular interest in either.

Hope your tests go great,
R.

Thanks for your opinions, is there a difference in the format of DSST and CLEP? Are they both electronic, multi choice?

Also, did you use any study material besides IC?

Thank you,
MJ

I have never taken a DSST but from reading here it seems that the comparison is 5 choices for CLEP and 4 choices for DSST. Less choices means more likely to get it right. I am reasonably sure that DSST is electronic as well.

For both World Religions and Western Civ I, I used a textbook. The Jackson Spielvogel textbook for Western Civ is particularly excellent. I was unable to read through all of it, but what I did read was engaging and helpful.

DSSTs are electronic at most testing centers, but a few centers remain that use a paper-based version. Just ask your testing center to make sure (since they'll have to order paper tests beforehand).

CLEPs are 90 minutes, DSSTs 120 minutes. DDST's format is far more updated than CLEP's, but they work through the internet so that there is a tiny bit of lag time between questions. I think it's negligible, but it takes getting used to after taking a bunch of CLEPs.
