Need some help setting up a plan.

Hey guys my name's Cory and I decided that I really need get my degree. I am married with a son and I work full-time while living in expensive Southern California. I want to be able to provide a better life for them. I have about 60+ GE credits from a local community college that I got about 10 years ago. I really just have no clue how I am going to be able to afford to transfer to a 4 year university...

My goal is to a BSBA in Human Resources Management or General Management but I've never taken any business oriented classes.

These are the classes I've taken

English 100 - Freshman Composition - 3 Credits
Math 10 - Elementary Algebra - 4 Credits
PE 103 - Healthy Living Exercise - 2 Credits
PE 166 - Circuit Training Lab - .5 Credits
Math 30 - Intermediate Algebra - 4 Credits
Psychology - 100 Intro to Psychology - 3 Credits
Communication 100 - Interpersonal Communications - 3 Credits
Political Science 180 - US Government - 3 Credits
Spanish 180 - Beginning Spanish - 5 Credits
Anthropology 100 - Intro Cultural Anthro - 3 Credits
Digital Arts 150 - Using Photoshop Beginning - 3 Credits
Geography 100 - World Regional Geography - 3 Credits
Psychology 250 - Psychobiology - 3 Credits
English 110 - Critical Thinking, Literature - 3 Credits
History 170 - History of U.S. to 1876 - 3 Credits
Philosophy 115 - Logical and Critical Thinking - 3 Credits
Biology 100 - Introduction to Biology - 4 Credits
Health Ed 135 - Nutrition and Health - 3 Credits
Computer Science 153 - Java Programming, Introduction - 4 Credits
Computer Science 175 - C++ Programming - 4 Credits

Any advice would be awesome on how I can go about obtaining a degree the cheapest and most efficient way. Thanks in advanced!



1.) All of these classes I earned a C or higher, I got 1 D in a science class but
I did not list it.

2.) I believe it was a speech course, I had to choice to take public speaking or
interpersonal communications to fullfill the speech required to transfer to a 4 year university

3.) English 110 was the last english that was required for general ed to transfer to a 4 year.

I can create a BSBA in General Management or HR for you from TESU. But I have a few questions.

1) How many credits are each of these courses? Go in and add that to each course. Also, did you get anything lower than a C for any of these (like English, or Computers).
2) Was Interpersonal Comm a speech course, or just a comm course?
3) Was English 110 the second semester of English (English II)?
4) How do you prefer to take courses/exams? There are several different ways to do it, but you kind of need to commit to one way or another here.

I have a recent post where I list a bunch of the different alternatives and what they are all about, but of course I can't find it right offhand. I really should copy and paste it to a document I can keep on my desktop, and then use it occasionally. If anyone here can find it, please send the link.

Anyway, edit your post to include your credits received, and answer my questions, and I can make a plan for you.

How do you prefer to take courses/exams? There are several different ways to do it, but you kind of need to commit to one way or another here.

Why would anyone need to "commit" to one way? almost everyone on here has used multiple methods, butt-in-seat, essay, multiple choice, computer based, hand written, proctored, unproctored, online course, self guided, all methods you have used in your own education so I am confused what you mean by "commit to one way" please explain.

I think I would prefer sites like ALEKS that is go at your pace non proctored.

I see 63 credits, at a glamce all the Charter Oak gen eds are met except for Speech (you can likely get a waiver for speech) and Ethics (might need 3 credits in Math too).

For the COSC BSBA with an HR focus you need the following:

that would be 16 more classes or 48 additional credits (+63) for 111....You need 60 liberal arts credits (math, english, history, science, social, etc) and you need 9 more credits, either pick LA exams to fill the 60 you need or if they are done finish up with free FEMA courses...you have room for 3-6 of them I think, depends on how it all shakes out.

Looks like around $5400, you might sub some credit by exam where you can to bring the cost down, but the UL stuff is critical.

DSST is another exam, it's like CLEP, read about both here along with tips on studying Free Clep Prep.com ...and of course, IC has flashcards and specific exam feedback for paid members...very good deal.

The three HR courses are just your secondary concentration...I have one in Health Care

What are LA exams to finish up the 9 credits I have left for liberal arts credits?
Liberal arts credits are not applied professional (like business), they are traditional liberal arts coursework like science, math, and english

FEMA are free credits in emergency management offered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Basically anything on this list as "college credit" can count and COSC doesn't charge for them...they will be of limited use to the OP as you just need too many credits in other specific areas. https://training.fema.gov/is/crslist.aspx

I guess I was thinking of SL - where it's much easier to get on a roll and take a BUNCH of courses through them; or study.com, where you need to take at least 2 courses to get your money's worth out of it (since you're paying for 2 exams anyway); that kind of thing. Yes, the OP doesn't need to commit to anything, but to try to figure out how they want to test out by reviewing the options and then deciding on a couple of the best options. I'm guessing that most people kind of choose the thing that they like the best, and try to get as many courses as they can out of that one option, and then move on to their next favorite option, and so on. No single option will do everything for them, but it's nice to get all of the courses you can out of a single source if you can, since you kind of get good at that way of doing things.
