My husband asked me what I wanted to do for my 50th birthday on Friday. I really couldn't think of anything.
He asked about going to a spa (yuck, I could not stand someone I didn't know rubbing my back  ) or going somewhere overnight (not with him, but with my friend ). He also wanted to give me a party. Well, I'm not really into a big party as I would probably be doing all the work getting ready for it!
I know he means well, but really, I would like the whole day to just clean my house, study for my CLEPs, go for a walk, and NOT have to cook ANY meals. I figured last night that, in 25 years, I have probably cooked over 8,500 dinners! No wonder I am tired of trying to figure out 'what's for dinner'.
I'm wandering here. What I was wanting to know is what would you ask for your 50th birthday? A party, go somewhere fun? Just not costing a ton as I'm saving up for all those tests!

One year I asked to have my house cleaned, someone else to the grocery shopping and a take out meal, he did all of the following and took the kids to the movies for the afternoon. I had my own retreat in my own clean bath. He came home with the takeout and we all enjoyed it. Watched a video and had a perfect day. No work for me, I used to work two jobs at that time, and always cooking meals. No one at my house likes cold food, so it is three meals a day on the weekend and two meals a day on weekends.
Whatever you do have a great birthday.

Yes, a 'no work' day. I like that. The only thing is I think my husband and my kids would love to have a party for me. My kids aren't little anymore and I know a party with everyone playing games and laughing would be highly desirable. I guess I could do that with the stipulation that they do ALL the work involved while I study for my tests! I would just have to let the 'perfect' clean house go and hope our company doesn't notice.
I've almost talked myself into it.

But I think I'll clean and let everyone else do the cooking.

How about a day away from the house with the kids? Float a river, canoe a lake, camping, mountain bike riding on some trails? Maybe I'm thinking about what "I" need! Studying for all these CLEPS has me pretty homebound so an outdoorsy day sounds great. Maybe a picnic? I see you live in MN so I'm thinking you aren't too far from a body of water. Or a big picnic/BBQ/party with all your guests at a park so you don't have to have your house all mucked up? You can bring volleyball nets, badminton, horse shoes, etc.
Whatever you do- ENJOY! Make it a CLEP-free day!

50 is a big one! I would do only exactly what I wanted to do on that day. I think that having everyone pitch in and do everything for you is a good idea. Is it kind of amazing that it would take an whole family to do the work of one woman.
Enjoy your day!

Thanks! I did have a nice day. In the morning, I got some very sweet cards and gifts from my family. Later, my husband surprised me by having my best friend and her family come over for cake, ice cream, and guacamole!
And I only studied a little bit today.

Sorry I missed this post and couldn't provide any ideas prior to the big 50 but, I think you should put down that CLEP book you are studying, head on over to the Mall of America, and ride the SpongeBob ride several times. Then, maybe the Log Flume ride. Oh, and no shopping - unless it's window shopping.

...that's the other thing I forgot to mention. I did go to the Mall of America! As for the rides, I can't do them (neck problems) and me and Sponge Bob are not exactly on the same wave length either. I went to the QVC store instead and got myself a pair of earrings that I had been wanting for some time now. A gift to me from me!
