Hi all,
Ok, here is my issue. I am trying to earn my degree in general managing from TESC. I have about 60 credits, so I'm half way there. Right now my goal is to get the CLEP's and DSST's out of the way and then finish up with the real college courses. My problem is that between work (8-6), two kids, volunteering (volunteer EMT Sunday mornings from 6-12pm) I find that CLEP studying slides to the bottom of the totem pole. I am currently working on the college composition W/ essay CLEP. I'm estimating that I need about 10 hours of study time, and in theory I have 2.5 hours a week, which should have me ready for the test in a month. Does anyone have tips or experience on how to stay focused and get this done? An idea I had was if there is someone else doing the same CLEP as I am, if we can partner up and encourage each other every few days to stay on track and meet our deadline to take the test.
Any feedback is appreciated!
Thank you

Do a search on this forum for the word motivation. Then read up and look at the people who posted they had run out of steam or lost motivation. Many of them took from the advise found what they needed and finished their degree. Many of them are still here motivating others.
We all hit brick walls at some point we just have to clinb or go around them in a way that works for us and not just give up.
Read my quote in my signature. After more then 30 years without a degree it got me really going. Find the quote that works for you.

I would say try to study at least an hour a day if you have access to the flash cards. Maybe you can do it at work, or wake up earlier and then do it there.

It may help to schedule your test date, then you have the clock ticking and may help motivate you.

I don't have the cards, but I do have the REA book. I like your idea - I think I can try to do 20 min a day. Thanks!

Schedule your exams.
This was the only way I would self-motivate. I've been doing this since 2008...It's just hard. You have to cowboy up and tough it out though!
You'll do fine man

Make a daily schedule with all of your commitments on it. Schedule in time for sleep, work, study, family, etc and do not assume that you can do two things at once.
If this schedule affords you less than 7 hours per week, you are going to need to cut back on some of your activities or you will just take an extra year or so to graduate. The EMT volunteer work, is it something you are doing to further your career? If not, then you might want to cut it out for now.
I pay someone to mow my lawn so that saves me 2 hours per week. I don't trust people to clean my house so I still have to do that myself. I cut out almost all video game playing and cut back on my workouts (bad idea).

Thanks everyone for lending support. The college I take the tests at does not have scheduling - you just show up and test. So that idea will not work. I am really focusing on cutting out the time wasters from the day and hope to be able to get a half an hour a day in. Will keep you posted!
Happy New Years

I hate to say it but 30 minutes a day will not be enough. You need to find more time. Some days you spend 0 minutes, some you spend 60 minutes, some you spend 480 minutes. This is how a person tests out of a degree. 30 minutes is just not enough.
