Need help for BSBA degree plan
#1
Hello everyone. I just received my evaluation for my second bachelor's, BSBA, at TESC. I could really use some input. Below is what I received, with my comments in red. Looks like all the CLEP/DSST exams as well as the Straighterline & ALEKS courses I did while laid-off have really helped! Glad something good came out of that dismal period. Smile

Thanks for the help!

Hello,

I will try to answer your questions to the best of my ability Smile

Will Penn Foster's course in Strategic Business Management fulfill this? Any suggestions for other options?- Yes it will : TESC Business Policy= Penn Foster's Strategic Business Management- ICS-0218. I know this from taking the course myself.

I was planning on taking DSST Money & Banking soon. Will that work here? Yes it will: It is a 300/400 Level course and is in the area of Finance. The TESC equv is FIN-332.

I'm planning on taking DSST Business Law II. Will that work here?- This course equates to LAW 202 which is a 200 level course. This course will not work because you have to have courses that are above the introductory level (100/200 level courses). I see that you are into testing so there is another option if you have not taken this course already. Human Resource Management is equal to MAN 331 at tesc and would meet the requirement and is a dantes exam. If you have already taken this or it is no longer available you can also look at TESC leadership courses as many of them are upper level and do not require tests which is a plus. They are mainly writing.

I'm scheduled to take DSST Management Information Systems next week. Will that work here?- Yes Management Information Systems is equal to CIS 301 at TESC and is considered to be a business course and would meet the requirement.

Thank you for the advice! I've already taken Human Resource Management so I guess that's not option for this spot. Unfortunately I'm on the road a lot for work so writing papers is extremely difficult at the moment. Are there any other options from Penn Foster, KCTCS or TECEP that you can think of? Thanks again.

I can't recall if all of these are 300/400 level. Excuse any redundancy. I just copy and pasted the whole list I have.

DSST Money and Banking

Straighterline Managerial Accounting (transcribed as Cost Accounting)
TECEP Federal Income Taxation

I made this list of ACE-approved Penn Foster courses (as of May 2012 or so), but I don't have the patience to sort them by subject. Someone else could probably help you pick out the right courses from the list.

I've been told in writing by a TESC advisor that Penn Foster Supply Chain Management is considered an upper level course (OPM-420).

Based on the TESC credit distribution site for BSBA in General Management, I'm fairly certain the following would transfer as upper level business electives:
Intermediate Accounting I
Intermediate Accounting II
Cost Accounting (which you have already)

Be careful with the rest of the Penn Foster business courses as some could be considered duplicates of other core business requirements (e.g. Corporate Finance and Principles of Finance DSST). As Penn Foster course equivalencies are not detailed in the course catalog, everything seems to depend on the advisor, phase of the moon, or where the dart lands on the "course evaluation" dartboard.

IrishJohn, I'm in the same boat. I'm attempting a second degree in Operations Management at TESC after completing a BA in History (thanks for your plan!). It is extremely difficult to get straight answers regarding upper level electives. Maybe someone else would be willing to post their equivalencies from Penn Foster to TESC.
ALEKS: College Algebra, Introduction to Statistics, Pre-Calculus
CLEP: American Government, American History I, Principles of Marketing
DSST: Business Ethics and Society, Civil War and Reconstruction, History of the Vietnam War, Human Resource Management, Management Information Systems, Money & Banking, Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union
Straighterline: Accounting I, Accounting II, Business Communications, Business Ethics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Managerial Accounting, Organizational Behavior, Principles of Management

Thakns, Muricles. I think what I'll do is go ahead and finish everything I know I have to take and save the extra class, TECEP or ECE for last. Since I'm not officially enrolling (i.e., forking over a lot of money) until January, that gives me some time. I probably won't even be ready to finish that last requirement until February anyways. Once I'm enrolled I guess I can run some ideas by TESC and have them tell me in writing which is acceptable. Wish it could have been DSST Business Law II, but alas...

I would be interested in the penn foster to tesc list too. Now I am thinking that I should probably get a second degree in another area. It would not hurt me any and it would be easier for me to get licensed to teach at grade schools in my area. I would love to go for the BA in Math/Natural Sciences.
