I had been thinking the same thing about skipping the TESU PLA courses. However after further research, I was told by an advisor at TESU that a student still needs to at least take the PLA-200 at TESU even if they have taken it elsewhere and it has been successfully applied to their degree plan. This is due to [new?] specific differences in requirements for TESU PLA that will be explained in the course apparently. The good news is that the PLA-200 course will count towards residency when (re)taken at TESU.

I've read on here that you don't need to take TESU's PLA courses at all - whether or not you've taken a PLA course somewhere else - but people keep being told this. It is NOT a requirement to take it. I think a rep from TESU personally came on here and responded. You might want to check here on the forum and see if you can find it, it was pretty recent.

I am pretty sure that there is no requirement for PLA100/200. However, if somebody takes those two courses, this qualifies them for the reduced PLA evaluation cost of $379 for 12 credits. There may be other ways to qualify for the reduced cost of $379 such as taking the Kaplan PLA course, but I am not 100% certain about that.
BSBA/Accounting TESU (2016). MSA UIUC (2018).
Need help with portfolios? I earned 18 credits at TESU through portfolio evaluations. Nine of those were for upper level accounting courses. My advice for PLA/portfolios: TESU portfolio tips The first post has the Portfolio Checklist I created. Page ten has the actual narrative I wrote to receive credit for ACC-440.
Using Straighterline's Financial Accounting as a substitute for TESU's Intermediate Accounting I? Don't do it if you are an accounting major and/or want your CPA license. They are not the same course and I think TESU has erred in accepting the SL course as Intermediate I. I made this discovery here: Intermediate Accounting II.

Also, there is nothing you need to do to qualify for a reduced rate because there is no reduced rate. There is only a flat fee for portfolio assessments.

MSinger Tesc Wrote:Just a quick word on this--it's unfortunate that someone told you that you needed to take PLA-100 and PLA-200 if you had already completed portfolios here. PLA-100 was certainly not necessary, as it introduces the concept of prior learning assessment and helps you figure out how to determine whether you have any prior learning that would be college-equivalent, and then which method is the best for you. PLA-200 is really the structure through which you create your portfolios, however many you are doing--it is helpful in making sure that you document everything, that you maximize the number of courses you can get credit for (we want you to use the process, or else why do I have a job?), that you know what learning outcomes are and how to address them effectively--and so we recommend that you take it, but on the other hand, if you have already done this successfully, it's not required.
I saw that too, but like I said, when I double checked with his office, I was told if a student hasn't completed a TESU PLA yet they need to take the PLA-200 course again even if they've already taken it.
I guess my opinion (as of the moment) is that if you feel comfortable submitting a portfolio without taking TESU's version of PLA-200, and are willing to take a chance on spending the money to have it evaluated anyway, then go for it!!

I agree -- but since it was his assistant that gave me the info this week, I was thinking it was a pretty reliable source.

If it was Todd Siben, it was probably inaccurate information. Even though he's the assistant director, he always gets confused and misleads students.

Re CSU Global's Certificate in Accounting I finally have the official written answer.
"you can CBE for as many classes in a cert as you want to. There is
no limit. Here is the full answer: " The student can take as many CBEs
to complete the Certificate for Foundations of Accounting. As long as she
is enrolled solely in the Certificate, not as a Degree-Seeking student.â
So yes you can completely test out of certificates at CSU Global. Handy to know.
