Need help / JST to TESU BABA

Hello All,

I've been a lurker on this site for a while now and it's always been a source of motivation to finally get a degree. I've recently switched jobs and have more time for myself to actually get to work on my degree. I am a former Navy bub and have been in the IC for just over 20 years. I've been a senior analyst, adjunct instructor, Project Manager and currently a Training Manager for a Cyber Security unit. I would like to continue to move up the chain in Project Management and branch into IT / IA / Cyber Security management.

I've never taken a CC / B&M course and only have a few CLEP / DSSTs to my credit. I would like any help determining if any of my military time (unofficial JST attached) will help satisfy any credits towards a TESU BSBA?

I like to think I am a decent test taker (spent maybe 10-15 hours spread across two weeks for each exam and passed) and enjoy studying and testing out verses doing a bunch of homework / assignments. Long term, I would be interested in an MBA, so if there are any courses / tests that could help with an MBA in mind, please let me know. I have been studying for my PMP as well and I believe I read that might gain me credit for the MBA.

I have completed the Prin of Management / Prin of Marketing / Prin of Supervision.

For a TESU degree, there will be a few courses that will fit in Gen Ed's, but not much will fit in the Core/AOS for business. You're close to starting from scratch there. You might be better off looking at some other degrees at TESU, or some other schools instead (COSC or EC).

I also think that you should look at WGU's IT degrees, which might be a better fit for you (and are more marketable than a BSBA in almost all cases, especially if you have experience). You can still take ACE courses that we recommend here before enrolling, and you'll get all kinds of certs included. They will also take more certs than TESU will.

Essentially, I would continue to take CLEP/DSST towards your BSBA GM credit.
From looking at those courses the majority are general education/elective courses.
There are two web pages and also take at least 7 TECEPS+Capstone.

Create or update a spreadsheet a spreadsheet I have in the Beginners Guide or use the one Dfrecore created.
Basically cross reference the two templates and the TECEP/CLEP/DSST links.
Start plugging in the courses you have taken/need to take.

Remember the 7 TECEPS, find the easiest 7 - Like English Comp I & II, Applied Math, and some Intro courses
You need the 7 TECEPS and the capstone for residency, so you won't need to pay the residency waiver.

Thanks for the responses. I was hoping my military credits with fulfill a few of the general education requirements (ORAL COMMS, HUMANITIES, Natural Sciences, Computer related stuff) and the rest falling into general electives. I will use one of those templates to fill out. I pretty much realized all the business core / AOS would have to done, which is cool.

In your shoes, I would go ahead and apply and get your transcripts evaluated. Then you will know exactly where everything fits. Meanwhile there will be plenty of TECEPs or other courses that can be worked on.

I don't understand what a "former navy bub" or "in the IC" means.  It looks like others here are assuming that you're active-duty military.  If this is the case, then you have different requirements than "regular" people for a TESU degree (or at least, for meeting residency requirements).

So are you active-duty?

Sorry about that.. I can be acronym crazy. I am a military veteran and spent 14 years in the US Navy. I got out of the Navy back in 2011 and then became a Defense Contractor. The "IC" is the Intelligence Community and I spent my military time in the Intelligence field and then as a Defense Contractor supporting the Intel Community.

Ok, then bjcheung77's advice is not going to work for you.  Military gets to use TECEP's as residency, the rest of us don't.  Also, CLEP/DSST's are free for AD Military, but not for the rest of us (at least I don't think it is for you).  So there's no need to limit yourself to those exams.

I am still going to recommend WGU.

I am fine with taking as many CLEPs and DSSTs or any other exams as needed. My company would reimburse me if I really push for it. I really want to do as little course / home work as necessary and just study and test out for credit. I tried a couple of exams already and think I can continue to that well enough.

I dont necessary needs the cheapest or fastest way to get my degree but do want to move quick enough and test out as I go.
