Need advice on which CLEP to take next
#1
As mentioned in a previous post, I missed passing the Microeconomics CLEP on Friday by two points (got a 48; needed 50 for p/f). I have to wait six months until I retake the Micro CLEP. In the meantime, thinking I would pass the Micro *sigh*, I am scheduled to take the Macro CLEP on June 16. I have one more CLEP to accomplish and that is Principles of Marketing. I have that one penciled in for September.

Here is my dilemma. If I start studying now for the Macro CLEP (test is on June 16), I know it'll help me in the long run with re-taking my Micro CLEP since I heard Macro is 'easier' and some people have recommended taking that one first. Let's say I pass Macro - I'll have to wait another five months from that point to re-take the Micro CLEP. Is it worth re-hashing the material in November for the Micro CLEP since it'll be a few months since my Macro CLEP? Or...should I just put aside he Micro/Macro stuff for now and start studying for the Marketing CLEP which I had scheduled for Sept.? Then...if I do that - I can reschedule the Macro for October and the Micro for November and then they won't have such a gap in between and I can retain the information since they'll be back to back CLEPs.

As much as I'd like to start studying for Macro now, it might make more sense to study for Marketing now and then study for both Macro and Micro in the fall since I'm not eligible to re-take the Micro until November.

Any suggestions on how to proceed from here? Also, how is the Principles of Marketing CLEP for those who have taken it? I hear it's fairly easy but I'd like some perspectives on those who have taken it recently.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your micro score. I am scheduled to take both macro and microeconomics in June. I will definitely take macro first, according to other posts I have read on this forum as well as degreeinfo, and degreeforum.com, Macro is advised to be taken before Micro ,so that is what I am doing.

I am currently finishing up my final prep for the Marketing Clep, which I wll be taking on Monday the 22th, the content is pretty easy to understand. I will post feedback shortly after. As far as your question on when to take the Macroeconomics Clep, personally I would wait until you are closer to retaking Microeconomics. When I first starting taking Clep and Dantes exam I really did not have a set order of when I would take a particular exam. But I happened to come across a post by Snazzlefrag ( a great man full of knowledge and wisdom) he suggested that you take exams with overlapping content close to each other. So I pretty much have tried to do that and I must say it has worked well.

Good luck with whatever you decide, I'm sure you will make the right decision.

Given the option you have, I would switch to the marketing exam (I took it several months ago) and then try to take the two economic classes back to back. GOOD LUCK!!

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, please post back after taking the Marketing CLEP; I'm curious to hear how easy/difficult it is and also what materials you used to study. Did you use IC exclusively or did you use IC along with other materials? Please let me know and...best of luck to you on Monday!

I believe I will consider taking the Marketing CLEP in mid-June. It does make sense to take the ecos back-to-back.

Ditto. Rob you know what hard intense studying does to the brain. I meant the 22nd.

swthing64,

I will definitely post back when I get home tomorrow. I used IC exclusively, the content was pretty simple, but I had a minor brain freeze last week so I had to push this exam back one week. But now I am back and ready to rock and roll. Thanks for the warm wishes.

Thanks.

I would agree with the others about doing mkt now and do both eco exams at the same time. I ended up doing macro then micro and I only used IC. I think were the exam(s) got me questioning myself is - based on the theory, what actions do you take to reduce inflation/increase trade etc. I got totally confused on that.

I did find a nice, concise listing of some of that info in (of all places) a study guide for Social Science and History.
It's in this book in the study guide section, there's one page on economics.

Maybe it will help...

Good luck! Good to see your getting back in the economic saddle, it's nice to somewhat understand the economic news reports now.
