Hello everyone,
This is my first post here, but I have been a lurker for longer than I care to admit . This is a belated thank you to everyone I have read. There was so much good information. I'm a few weeks away from my first degree.
I was a prior UoPeople and Ashworth student. I transferred out of Ashworth's computer science program, and fortunately most of those credits, plus UoPeople, prof. certifications and some classes I took long ago at a local community college all transferred over. I only had to take a few classes with E.U. itself, and now finishing the capstone with a few weeks left.
I was going to pursue a degree at UMPI as the history degree really interested me and the price is terrific, but in talking to my counselor, she said I would have 88 credits, if I chose to pursue the BS in liberal arts at Excelsior.
I must admit, that is very tempting. I don't know that UMPI would transfer as many credits.
What is your opinion, please? If I reenroll for my bachelor's degree at Excelsior, I suppose I could get the rest done, apart form the second capstone, at Study.com, whereas it might take longer for me to complete at UMPI. I have even entertained the idea of returning to Ashworth to finish the BS in General Studies there, but I doubt I would get as many credits transferred. There may be some other better option out there I don't know about, as well.
Thanks

Keep in mind that UMPI does not take NA credits (Ashworth and UoPeople), so you may be short many credits for the UMPI degree. However, most/all of those could likely be made up using Sophia. I would probably recommend that you stick with Excelsior. Definitely EU over Ashworth; at least with Excelsior you will end up with a RA degree (that could matter if you decide to go forward with master degree at some point). If you share all you have already for courses/credits I'm sure someone here can help you plan out the rest to complete your bachelor (BLS) at EU (see post - https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid335173)

UMPI has accepted some NA credits in the past so it's definitely worth applying and seeing where the OP is. EU will cost much more than UMPI. If they are short on the 90 transferable credits, they could definitely utilize Sophia and it's the cheapest way to get credits.

If that is the case currently, then I agree it would be worth applying and see where they stand for credits.

All of the Ashworth College credits show in the transfer database as not accepted. U of the People on the hand has had many courses transfer to UMPI. Even if the credits don't transfer, Sophia is a very quick, cheap, pretty easy option. EU is going to be difficult to complete with ACE credits because they're such a pain. They also now charge for very transcript evaluation after the first one. No one wants to take many courses there because it's like $415 per credit. UMPI is $1400 for 8 weeks and you can completed as many courses as you can during those 8 weeks. 1 class at EU is going to be over $1200. So UMPI looks like a steal comparatively.

A subject degree is generally going to be better value than a Liberal Studies degree. Not that there is anything wrong with Liberal Studies, but if there is a subject degree at UMPI that you actually want, I would go with that one. It'll cost the same, or possibly less, than the Excelsior degree and likely be faster as well. Even if a lot of your credits don't transfer, it's easy to make up the difference with Sophia.

Thanks. I need to talk to my counselor and get an exact account of what those 88 transfer credits they would count are. I will admit: I appear to have made a dreadful error. I thought, since Excelsior had some sort of partnership with Study.com that those credits taken with them would not count as part of the 90 transferred credits. I have no interest in paying Excelsior tuition for the remaining full 32 or even 30 credit hours if I could find another possibility elsewhere.

Don't worry yet about what EU will equate them to - post what you have from their original sources as showing in the thread I shared earlier, there are people here that know how EU would count them. Also, there is no reason you would have to complete more than the required EU courses (7 credits I believe) - There are so many low cost options for credits. UMPI will give you credit for pretty much everything except Ashworth. Some may come in as general electives. I'd focus on Sophia and completing the GEC. I wouldn't spend the money on EU. Their courses are $$$. Some of your certs may even be worth credit at UMPI. And there are several of us who took college courses back in the 90's on this forum. Some even before then. UMPI accepted courses from 1993 for me.
