NEW Straighterline courses on the horizon
#1
I was just checking the SL website and noticed a few new courses and wanted to share the info. They are not currently available for enrollment but since they are listed I'd assume they will be soon.

The new courses that I can see are:

-Introduction to Statistics- Partnered with Saylor and study materials are all free online sources.(3 credits in math)

-Introduction to Programming in C++- Partnered with Zyante (4 credits in computer science)

-Introduction to Programming in Java- Course Content from Zyante (4 credits in computer science)

The programming courses are exciting. I can't say I'm excited by yet another option for statistics; there are about a half a dozen options. I know this is the Saylor/semi-free version, but still....

What a coincidence, some days ago I was looking for programming courses on StraighterLine and was disappointed not to see any there. This is really good news for me! Smile

All of these courses are ACE approved, except for the Java course. Anyone know how long ACE takes to approve courses?

I figured some folks would be interested in the computer courses. The stats course initially excited me, because I need to take statistics for my psych major, and I am sweating taking it.

Any idea or opinion on what would be the "easiest" way to pick up 3credits in stats?

That was my original plan, but I am not very hopeful in ALEKS being re-accredited.

Is there a cheap and quick option for "Data Structures" and "Discrete Math"? These two courses are required for the BA in CS from TESC.

I believe the Independent Study thing from Iowa has "Finite Math," but I'm not sure if that is a substitute for "Discrete Math."

The new StraighterLine course would probably be my second choice. Studying on my own and taking the CLEP would probably be my third choice.

Sophia Learning, Propero, DSST, TECEP, and Uexcel ECEP. Sophia Learning and Propero are self-paced. Straighterline's business statistics is already the equivalent of STA-201 at TESC.

The programming courses are 4 credits each -- will TESC accept all 4 credits even though the programming courses require only 3 credits, or will they just accept 3?
