N.J. Governor Wants to Merge Thomas Edison Into Rutgers
#41
Rhashad Wrote:Hmm, very scary, but possible. TESC folding would be a disaster for all of us.
Well, not all of us. Remember, EC isn't going anywhere in the foreseeable future. Smile Best case scenario, TESC's policies remain unchanged (regardless of whether TESC name changes); worst case scenario, EC & COSC get a lot more business.

That's what I'm thinking. If things get ugly at TESC I wonder what will happen to institutions like Verity and College Plus that are alligned with TESC. I bet they are considering going over to EC or COSC.

CalDog over on DInfo brought up an interesting option... NJ sells TESC out to EC and arrange for special a special subsidation for NJ residents for tuiton (for that in-state 'flavor'). It would sure be a boost to the customer service reputation that TESC endures.

What it comes down to is that we're all armchair quarterbacking on this. Its a (long) game of wait and see. Unless someone here can actually divine the future, and if that's the case, I need some lottery numbers... (as well as get a some insight on the stuff I need to work on for my Science & Religion class... :p )
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

Bachelor of Science in PsychoRabbitology degree
Master of Education with a specialty in Rabbit-specific destructive munitions (or eLearning & Technology, I forget which)
Doctor of Philosophy in Wile E. Leadership with an area of specialty in Acme Mind Expansion - 2017 Hopefully

Excelsior currently serves twice the number of students as TESC....they do it better and they do it wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more efficiently. Excelsior runs a multi- million dollar surplus each year. Why in the world would Excelsior have any interest at all in such a scenario? Makes no sense at all. They will profit from the fallout without investing a penny.

For business majors, the current scenario is the perfect case study for the Business Policy/Strategy course, so commenting and discussing all the possibilities is actually great real world practice.

I can picture the conversation now. I'm going to have to borrow Rhashad's earlier comments with some minor changes.

"Thomas Edison College? . . . . never heard of it."

"Oh, yea, you probably know it by Excelsior now" .

"Never heard of it either."

"Arghh, forget it! Let's just go watch a movie."

I can't wait to wear some of my sister's t shirts and sweatshirts, even though they are 2 sizes too small. I can always blame it on the "Freshman 15".

I have to agree I just read the news on the school. I thought at first that it was just that Rutgers was going to offer courses at TESC. But, it turns out that the Gov is looking to save money and have them combined into one school.
Which means Rutgers is taking over and TESC is going bye bye.
Dont know why they are saying they are going to fight it. Because they cant win. Jersey needs to save money.

Actually, they can fight it... All they have to do is show that the proposed changes aren't going to save the money that plan is talking about. They also have people (and alumni) at both schools in opposition to it, so its not going down without a fight.

I have been putting off consolidating my transcripts at T.E.S.C. and was planning on stacking a few more CLEPS first. Should I do that A.S.A.P. and will my B.S. in applied technical studies be affected? Geeez.. I am not a student there yet should I enroll and get on the books before there requirements change? Will that help? I called them today and they were already gone for the day....ANY WORDS OF WISDOM FOR ME?
