Yes, Macroeconomics is the best fit. As EC are waiting on the CLEP transcript, the social sciences requirement will be addressed in the next week or so.

Regarding the AA/AS AoF choices, it's probably going to be an AA with AoF in Literature.

Why?

Well, now that I'm in the fortunate position of having choices, the AA is a personal preference. It's primarily a vanity thing; I'm trying to distance myself from the hard sciences and business, as the qualification is something I'm doing for myself. The humanities courses were by far and away the most satisfying subjects to study for and fit in well with the overall impression of a 'Liberal Arts' Associates (in my personal opinion). If the Associates can reflect that, all the better. I won't have this much of a choice with a Bachelors due to the limitation of available credit.

Additionally, while an Area of Focus is not anywhere near a major, I don't want to misrepresent the qualification. As you no doubt know yourself, the maths requirements for a major are much higher than anything available through CLEPs. On this basis, representing a degree as focusing in maths when the transcript shows the equivalent of tough high school courses would potentially cheapen the qualification for me.

Appreciate your input, I've been following your progress and when work commitments took me away from the pursuit of credits, checking in and seeing your AS was a strong reminder to get back on track

An Area of Focus in Literature - I hadn’t thought of that. Good for you!

I can understand your reasons for your degree choices. I do wonder (just out of curiosity, I know you don’t want one in math), if it is possible to have 2 Areas of Focus.

I had noticed that you were away from the forum/studies for a while. I’m glad to know that my success with my degree was a little motivation for yours. I hadn’t even considered that as a possibility.

With just a few more hours of Info Lit and the new orientation course, you’ll be done!

P.S. My advisor was so fast at evaluating my transcripts and getting my record through the graduation process; I did not have time to make a request about my official transcript for my degree. (EC got my last transcript on Friday. I enrolled that night. I took the non-credit orientation course on Saturday night. My official evaluation was done Monday and submitted for the next step. My graduation evaluation was done Wednesday and I was given an official conferral date!) If you need something special, ask first.

Yes, EC Student Experience is the non-credit orientation course. As far as I can tell, it is a requirement.

If you are in the application process and have not enrolled yet, be sure to check the unofficial eval closely. Make sure everything is right before you take the next step. Adding a day or two to the process won't hurt anything, especially if you can be sure your records are accurate.

EC has decided not to accept the somewhat recent (2008) change by ACE from lower level credit to upper level credit.

The information on these appear in the Student's Guide to Credit by Examination, available on EC's website.

I need 46 credits.

With 30 of those credits being UL required in various areas, I'd call it slim. It can be done, but you're looking at a lot of cash for the ECEs to get much of the UL credit.

I thought College Math was worth 6 LL credits. Does Excelsior only grant 3 credits for that test? Math is not my favorite thing, but I was thinking of taking it for the 6 credits. I already took College Algebra in college many years ago, so in that sense don't need more math credits, but would like to get 6 credits for one test.

Part of the reason for looking at getting an Associate qualification as a stop gap measure is the cost involved. Matriculating, graduating and getting the award would be a good place to sit and survey what is required next and where.

I had previously been shying away from TESC as the international matriculation fees for the first year are $3,784 with graduation costs of $257. An Associate qualification with TESC would be a little too expensive.

So, the plan is to get an Associate with EC and then use those credits as a base for building depths and upper level (UL) credit. Mercenary as this is, total price: $1745 for enrollment, graduation and the rather infamous 'Information Literacy' course.

Then, rmroberts posts this excellent link. I hadn't been following TESC policy/information dissemination for a while, so this was a bit of a surprise.

In particular, the Principles of Management/Marketing CLEPs are evaluated as 300-level, UL credit. This is in addition to the literature CLEPs being evaluated at the 200-level. 33 UL credits are still required, however 18 must be at the 300-400 level. The liberal arts capstone course requirement is also somewhat non-committed for the current time.

After speaking with EC today, my unofficial eval won't be completed until the end of the month. Other members of this board had talked about skipping the AS/AA award and heading straight on to the BS/BA. This new information is food for thought in terms of planning. Also, thanks NAP for recommending to hold off on the app to EC for the time being

Time to do a forum search on all the BS degree plans for TESC.

The Business Communications course offered by Penn Foster has been referenced on the forum fairly often. Checking ACE's College Credit Recommendation Service, this course is listed as being 'offered' between 11/1/2000 - 12/14/2002.

Does this mean it is only ACE-approved if taken during this period, or something else? I understand that TESC accept and transcribe some NA courses using their own equivalent course codes, but does anyone have a bit more info on this, please?

edit update: Right, cancel that; forum search indicates that it is the Business and Technical Writing (ENG121) course that people have been taking to satisfy the bus. comms. requirement at TESC. It is ACE-approved to present.

edit update 2: The Business Policy/capstone course is something I can do online. There is a proctored midterm, however, TESC are already using their online/webcam proctoring system to administer this exam. It's beginning to look increasingly likely that I could complete a degree with an actual major. Will update with a possible BSBA 'map' later. This forum has several example BSBA plans and is absolutely full of useful information in general
