You're in a no lose situation. You've updated your resume. You're polishing your interviewing skills. AND you might get a job. Doesn't look like there's a down side to this. Good luck.

Linda, you'll crush it! I'm sorry I missed the note to send good luck for the phone interview, but you didn't need it! You'll do just as well at this one. Since it's the first face-to-face interview, this is likely where they'll get into the details of your background. I'm a fan of honesty, but do not let too much modesty make you sound outdated. You have the experience, you've done it, and while it has been a while, you feel good about your experience and ability to continue where you left off. As far as the company's diverse range, I imagine they're familiar with that uncertainty, so I wouldn't sweat it too much. If you want to test the waters, though, use someone else's phone (so on the off-chance someone connects to your resume)...call that site and play the role of the stupid potential customer. "Do you perform (blah) testing there? No? Oh, okay. Sorry to bother." Scratch item #1 off the list. Have someone else call about the other. Or still as the uncertain potential client, just ask the receptionist that you've noticed the company does XYZ testing, but what is available at that location?" Eliminate some of your uncertainty by zeroing in on what to prepare for, but if you do not want to do that, as mentioned, diverse companies are familiar with a bit of introductory uncertainty about what specialized locations do.

Update After 3 days of unending stress I went to the interview today feeling OK. I put on my Power suite, I actually wore High heels (something I do about once a year) and my neice did a fantastic job of putting my hair up in a proffesional looking French Twist (She learned how to do it from a You tube video). Once I got there for some reason I almost relaxed, it was like I got there on time and not looking bad so the worst part was over. The questions came from 3 different people in half hour interviews. Two mentioned my degree and how impressed they were with the self motivation it took to do that. It seemed to go well and I was told I should know something early next week. I feel good to have gotten this far and even if I don't get this job I know the degree has made a difference.

Congrats on doing well! I try to look at every interview as a chance to shine my skills for the next one (eventually I'll interview for a really big job and put all that polishing to use!)

Wow, congrats on doing well in the interview. Making it through the interview without passing out is a feat in itself. Good luck to you on getting the job!

One final update I got this e-mail this morning. Dear Linda:
Thank you for your interest in L Tech and taking the time to interview with us last week. Though at this time we are moving forward with another candidate. If anything changes, I will contact you directly. Thank you again, So I was finally ready to get a full time job. Now it is not going to happen. I have mixed feelings about this. The timing was bad I really didn't want to give up the last of summer, but my ego is unhappy I thought I had this. I am a little surprised by the last line. Does that mean they are making an offer and if that person doesn't accept or pass the background test I might still be in the running? Well anyway it was a good interview, good practice for the next one and I learned a lot about the company so there may be another chance with them sometime in the future. Thank you all for the support and well wishes.
Linda
