My Journey from Dead End Job to Success
KayV, thank you. I needed the encouragement I got from your post.
Task 2 revisions met requirements today!
Task 3 problem statement was approved by the course mentor but I can't submit it to WGU until my employer reviews it and gives me permission to use info from work in the project. Just emailed today asking for approval - if it's a yes, I might be done as early as next week.

Haven't received approval from work yet, but I'm going to finish the work for the project and hope it gets approved soon. The assignment can't be submitted without the signed approval form. I'm using a work situation I need to fix anyway so it won't be a waste of time if I can't get someone to sign the form. But I'd have to start all over with another company if I can't make it happen.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it's approved. They're lucky to have someone who sees problems, and comes up with a plan to fix them. (Rather than my go-to position which is b*#@) and moan.)

LaterBloomer - if feel ya. My position recently on Amazon not giving me an answer was to B&M and drag my butt. Lucky I've learned enough about me over the years to tell on myself. So my hubby, a friend and my WGU mentor all told me today to stop trying with Amazon (or any other big company) and go for small, local and non profits that would all welcome free help.

I'm very extroverted in a crowd but I hate reaching out to one person to ask for something but I forced myself to do it today. So far, I have 3 leads and I'm working on getting one of them to sign this darned letter so I can get going.

Isn't it funny? You may be reticent because you don't like asking for help. (Them giving you an opportunity.) If so, STOP THINKING THAT WAY!!!. Your support team gave you great advice about reaching out, but think of it as you reaching out to lend a helping hand. I suspect that helping others comes more naturally to you than asking for help for yourself. Anyone would be lucky to get your assistance.

It's signed!!!! The branch manager of my town's library seems really happy to have me working on a project for them. I finished about 30% of the plan I developed for Amazon but I stopped before I invested too much time without the signed letter. So I'm starting from scratch with the library. I think this will be a better project for me though and maybe I can help the library with my recommendations.

I watched as upper management did the exact opposite of what my own strategic planning would have accomplished...and good managers left, accounts were lost...and kneejerk fixes were implemented instead of integrated cross functional improvements.

This describes exactly my current situation at the company I'm in.

They tend to make changes out of defensive positions which in turn are knee jerk reactions that from an operational standpoint make absolutely no sense. When if they were proactive, they could actually run a more efficient operating company.

I've given up on providing any sort of feedback as it will fall on deaf ears.

What motivated me to complete my BSBA is to give myself other opportunities in a different career field at a company that is open to feedback that will help the company.

I'm still debating on MBA or not, the progress you made at WGU is impressive in such a short period of time, actually motivates me to look into the MBA at WGU. I guess we shall see... Anyways for what its worth, thank you for being an inspiration. At 35 years old it appears that I will finally be achieving my dream of getting a bachelors degree in Business Admin. and graduate in September.

You've got me beat by a decade - I was 2 weeks shy of 45 when I my BSBA was conferred. Congratulations - it will pay off. Be careful of how quickly you jump from your current company. Enjoy the search. You have the upper hand with experience plus the degree instead of only one or the other.

Met with the library this morning to get information for the capstone project. So happy it worked out this way. They have data and are thrilled I'm going to dig through it for trends and work on recommendations. And I'm very happy to be working with them on it. As always the universe gives me what I need when I can't figure it out myself. Trying to do this at work would not have been as easy due to the fast pace and inability to schedule hour long blocks of time to meet.
