My Journey: TESU BSBA
#91
StoicJ Wrote:If the options are good, I will complete the two finance TECEPs, and whatever other 2 courses will transfer. If the options suck, I will go back to GM.

So no Accounting for you? Accounting is not my thing, or I think it sounds boring, but I better consider it anyway. I have very few solid options. I guess I prefer Accounting to Finance.

Accounting and Finance are interrelated, and many of the concepts that I learned in Accounting helped me in Finance class, and vice versa. I haven't yet worked in either, so I don't know which one I would prefer. I think accounting jobs are easier to find. Also, accounting concepts do help you understand certain aspects of Finance better - for example, if you know how to create financial reports, than it can be easier and more intuitive to analyze those financial statements.

Nope, I'm not into accounting any more than what's in the finance classes.

FIN: And finally the two Davar finance (UL) for my FIN.

Another reason for me is that I'm trying to get all A's, for my new graded credits (hopefully 48 or more graded credits). So I would want the math course not to be graded by a school. EdX is such a good option, I just wasn't ready Sad

I had an excellent 2 weeks at Davar. It was stressful and hectic, but worth it.

I am considering doing a Finance concentration. But I do really want both CIS and Marketing too. I was browsing job postings again, and for some reason, I found one which was a marketing position, but they preferred someone with a finance background. Of course I am sure this is rare, but I wonder if the CIS will get me much. I wonder about doing Finance + Marketing and get some kind of IT certification as proof of my IT knowledge.

I feel I need to choose soon if I'm doing Marketing as one of my concentrations, so I don't waste the money on the TECEP if I'm not. I think I have 8 days to get a 75% refund on the TECEP fee I paid. However, I would have to check on the date and amount of refund.

A lot from my thread got deleted in the forum switch, because I am moving quickly.

I find the community college part exhausting. Choosing the school, the courses, getting transcripts sent, getting financial aid, etc. Somehow it adds up to a lot of time, and I did not expect to spend so much. I feel like with the same time, I could have earned at least 15 ACE/CLEP/TECEP credits! But most of that work is done now, besides the classes themselves. I will do cc classes in the Spring as well. I know I will feel like each term is dragging on by about 7 to 9 weeks. I prefer shorter classes like 8 week classes, but this is how most courses are, and this is what I'm doing. This time I have to try to do less! Just enough to be sure I'll get an A.

I spent a lot of time trying to make sure I get everything done in the right order, to save money, and on time. I am hoping to squeeze all my Straighterline courses into 1 month, but it may not be possible.

I hate paying ProctorU scheduling fees and waiting for a proctor. I think that's unfair to make us wait if we're also paying for the priority scheduling.

I passed the Strategic Mgmt TECEP. Grading seemed pretty strict to me. I figure they deducted a good amount for not knowing 1 or 2 of the items of a list. Or, maybe I ended up being really off on one essay, but I thought I only missed 1 item of the lists on 2 of the questions.

I'm hoping to take the English Comp II TECEP soon and my first CLEP.

For the BSBA (Marketing and Finance) and ASNSM (Bio), I believe I only have 12 exams needed, and I already know the material for 4 of them. So I feel like I could be done in just a few weeks if I didn't want to do the Math concentration and the community college courses. I also want to do a few extra exams in my areas of concentration.

It is crazy to think that my Masters may only take 6 months, while my undergrad is taking 11 months. (The Masters better take only 6 months, to save money!) However, a lot of the 11 months is deciding what I want to do, having to relearn math, and having to learn how things work. And the cc classes slow me down considerably, especially because I have overstudied. Overstudying on Davar exams and others has been a possible issue. I feel like I won't learn as much otherwise, but I am tempted to shave off 20-30% of that study time, and use it toward other credits.

Unfortunately after the BSBA, I may not be ready to dive into the 6 month Masters because of life getting in the way. I think I might just pick up some Comp Sci credits until later in 2018 when I'm ready. I hope I'm ready by then. I want to eventually get a Comp Sci undergrad degree, but I would rather have the Masters first.

The people who have done their MBAs that fast have been people who have lots of business experience and can grind out the projects and papers wicked fast. It may not be reasonable to assume you can do the same if you don't have the same sort of experience.

Well, I think my Davar run is an indicator, but I plan to do some reading before I enroll. I forgot that in my plan above, so maybe I'll work on that instead of CS classes Smile

I know papers and projects aren't the same as exams. Earlier I posted that I would avoid longer or many papers if I could, but in a way they are easier than exams. I will get used to them too.

I've been largely stalled. I have a couple excuses, other things in my life going on, but it is also because I've lost some of the motivation I had before. It's easier to be motivated in the beginning. I should take some of my own advice, from a thread here about motivation.

Things are feeling too slow, which was discussed in the thread. I think it was Cookderosa who brought it up. I am motivated when there are deadlines and challenging goals. First it was slow because I was trying to study Calculus on my own, and it was a struggle. My weak points are math and oral communication. I was also trying to write a speech to record, however, I am going to do a Public Speaking cc class instead. The cc class will require more speeches, but I don't have to think about that yet.

However, I am also thinking of renewing my EMT certification, and that makes the calculus and speeches seem easy in comparison, because it involves a bigger weakness of mine.

Right now it's all feeling so slow, partly because I am not trying to graduate in March. There are good reasons why June is better, but it still feels slower.

TESU registered me into the wrong TECEP. Thankfully get all requests in writing, so now they can see it was their mistake. I guess they will correct it, but it will add a few more days of waiting. I really wanted to get that exam out of the way this weekend.

I wanted to start at Straighterline, but none of the coupons will work on a membership. I am undecided if I should start SL now (without membership coupon). I feel like I need something structured to get me going again. SL seems perfect, because it has time pressure. However, once that's done I will probably be back in the same situation. It may be better to knock out some more TECEPs and at least one Saylor, and save SL for mid December. I could also work on the DSST and others. I feel like it's harder to get motivated for that one because I can't take it at home. Also, at least one of the SL classes should be done before the Study.com classes, so it's holding up my final (paid) month at Study.com.

The community college math class is full, so I'm not going to do the math concentration. That is disappointing, but I can use the time for other important things. If anyone is planning to take higher level math courses, register really early!

I noticed some other classes filling up much quicker than others. These schools should add another section when they have a long waiting list, but I guess they can't afford to or they have scheduling problems. One school seems to allow up to 50 people on the waiting list, when there's only 30 available spots.

All of this makes me appreciate Study.com and Davar more. I hate having to register so far in advance for the TECEPs.

My kids found it fairly easy to crash difficult classes like advanced maths or science because people would change their mind after the first meeting, so if you can get on the waiting list, I'd certainly show up.
