Hereâs a little update on my AJU experience:
Iâm enrolled in the MPA program. Iâm taking the following courses:
Managerial Communication
Organizational Behavior
Survey of Public Administration
Iâm about half-way through all three courses at this point. The term began Feb. 2. I have been putting in about 5 or 6 hours a day of study and/or research. The courses all have quite a bit of essay writing and a lot of reading. I would classify AJUâs program as rigorous and much more challenging than any previous coursework I have done. PA has two textbooks. Managerial communication is much tougher than it sounds. It requires quite a bit of analytical thinking and writing skills. I would not recommend taking all three of courses at the same time, if you have a full-time job. Writing happens to be my strongest skill so Iâm doing well with the courses but the endless essays do become chore-like as you plug on.
Org Beh has one 12-14 page writing/research paper.
Public Admin has three, 4-8 page research projects/papers.
Managerial communication has all kinds of writing requirements but the mid-term and final are not proctored. Thatâs because they are case analysis writing assignments.
I have taken one mid-term so far (Org Beh) and it was pretty tough, multiple-choice questions and 6 essays, I got a low A.
Overall Iâm happy with AJU and thoroughly impressed with the academic challenge it provides. I would highly recommend them to others considering an MBA or MPA.
