My time with hand bells was pretty short; 2-3 years, I think. I was about 12 years old too, so no, I never did 4 at a time except once or twice during practice, for fun. My position was one year somewhere around middle C, and the next year I was much farther down the table with the bigger bells (now, I did have 3 or 4 bells to deal with there, but not at the same time.).

Yeah, it's sometimes called a double bass, though generally not in the circles I played in. I dabbled in bluegrass bass playing.
