Ministerial credits applying at TESC
#1
My son officially enrolled at TESC and they said they would accept all of his credits for his BA in Liberal Studies, but not the 4 credits he's taking from an accredited university for ministerial certification. I don't see why they wouldn't 'fit' under religion. Has anyone else transferred in similar credits?

Thanks!

The university is regionally accredited. The university itself accepts the credits (up to 18) for any of their bachelor's programs.

He's in the first stage which is 4 credits (without the practicum--another 2 credits). I could see not accepting the practicum, but the university grants 4 credits for the course which involves reading 8 books, doing overviews on each, and taking tests on each.

Are the credits part of a degree program or a certificate only program? If certificate only, then that might be the reason for non-acceptance.

They're part of a certificate program, but the university (issuing them) will accept the credits and apply them to a degree program.

Since the course is from a RA University and college credits is issued, I didn't think there would be a problem with TESC accepting the credits.

TESC not accepting class - appeals?
HELP ! Has anyone had any success in getting a no-credit decision overturned? What was the process? TESC will not accepted 3 of my classes from U of Washington and Central Wash University (both major RA B&M) without a syllabus.

One)- Macroecon, I just Clepped it -class was long ago, renovating the building/records packed in storage, etc.....

Two)- Math 105, which is a Pre-calc class they said was Developmental even AFTER I sent syllabus PROVING it wasn't, but I don't need those particular credits anyway, so never mind....

Three)- PROBLEM. I took BSAD 398 Personal Investment(Securities Analysis, not Balance Your Checkbook) at CWU in 1978. It was a one-time, special topic class- they have no course description or syllabus from that long ago. I would think that a 300-level class from a 100 year old (CWU, not me- I'm only 54) RA B&M school would speak for itself.

I have a 1-credit hole in both GMS electives and Business electives for my BSBA Management, thanks to quarter hour/semester hour conversion - these 2.67 credits would fill nicely.

I am taking Accounting Clep as I have 2-2 credit classes. The adviser DID say that they will swap 3 credit Clep for 2 credit class AND that these 5 will fill my Accounting requirements...... I don't think I can use these two credits for my 1-credit holes, but ?????

Other than that, I am down to Mgr Comm (guided study) and 3 Teceps (including Bus Policy).

Any help would be greatly appreciated ( are you listening Jennifer?) Thanks, Greg

Ok, it's RA credit. That means for sure, that it's not arts and science credit (in other words, it is not humanities), so it's applied science/applied technology/career credit. In a BA Liberal Arts track, that means it would be free elective only. Is his 27 credit free elective category filled? Practicums would fit in that area too, if he has space.

P.S. Level of difficulty isn't a factor, it's classification of credit based on the issuing college. If the issuing college issues the credit from outside the arts and science department, it is 100% not going to make it INTO an arts and science program at any school.

Okay, sorry if I'm being dense here. The University is regionally accredited and will apply the class credit to their BA degrees as electives.

So if I understand correctly, because the credit is outside the college's regular departments (it's listed under The Academy), even though the college will give credit for it, TESC (and other colleges) won't.

I wish I had know that sooner. I would have encouraged him to wait. He could have taken another class. He's down to 18 credits--still doable taking 2 classes over the summer and 4 in the fall.

I don't guess it would fall under PLA or anything else...

As always, thanks for your help, even though I may not like the news. Smile

Sounds like an inside university policy - accepting/converting certificate credit to degree credit; perhaps TESC will see it the same way?

BTW: What university are you referring to?
