Military Tuition Assistance for TECEP

I was searching the forum the other day and while browsing through a thread someone gave the steps necessary(what blocks to check) for getting TA to pay for TECEPs. If I have to, I will search through them all again but hopefully someone will chime in. I know that they will pay for it but I have a new ESO, and I want this to go through the first time without getting kicked back. Thanks for the help.

I found the information I needed. We just went to a new style TA application and the tutorial informed me on how to do it. Thanks anyway.

it's been a while since the last post, but I was wondering what came of it. How do military members sign up for TECEP? Couldn't find anything over here.

# If the Soldier wishes to use TA to take a class with a college that does not participate in the electronic course upload, registration, invoicing, and grade submission processes of GoArmyEd, the TA requests must be made using the Reimbursement Request Process. A reimbursement request form must be completed in GoArmyEd. It will be routed to an Army Education Counselor to be manually reviewed and approved. Soldiers should allow extra time for this. If approved for TA, the Soldier will be notified by email. Soldiers must print the approved TA Reimbursement Form from GoArmyEd and enroll in the class directly with the college. The Soldier will self-pay for the class. Reimbursement for these courses will be made directly to the Soldier, rather than the college. Soldiers must ensure that the college submits grades to the Army for the class to receive TA reimbursement from the Army.

So that includes the TECEP then, right? I pay first...pass the exam...then get reimbursed? Can anyone confirm?

Ok, I would really like help on this if anyone can chime in. Used the goarmyed helpdesk case and submitted a question on this. Somehow TESC is not listed in the TA Reimbursement Request system. So, I decided to call to speed up the process and was told because I have a helpdesk case open, they cannot help me. So, I will have to wait for them to get back to me. Gotta love goarmyed. So, because of this, I would really like to know from military members how they are getting or got reimbursed for TECEP. Thanks!

Hey. Just got off the phone with an education counselor from the area here. She wrote:

..Thomas Edison should know you are a soldier and WILL
NOT charge you for the TECEP exams. They will send it here to our proctor
and you will not have to pay anything, nor do you have to fill out a
reimbursement request through GoArmyEd. If you have any other questions,
just give me a call.

So, now I will contact TESC and see what they say. Just want to post this in case someone else has questions.

Ok, whatever that person told you was completely wrong. She may have been thinking of CLEP, DSST, or ECE. That is not the case with TECEPs. The way you do it is the new TA form has spot to click for testing. The old one was a little harder to understand but the new web based TA that the Navy and USCG is using (probably everyone) has a box specifically for testing. It is not that hard and I will check this tomorrow while on base and give you more detailed information.

I go to TESC and know for a fact their tests are not free, nothing there is. It is actually more expensive for us to take the tests than for their other students who are in the various programs. That is the price we pay for not having to pay the huge fees for enrollment they have.

ETA: Thankfully we don't have to deal with goarmyed, and every college is fair game. There is no reimbursement, they take care of everything course related (excluding books, supplies).

This new TA form you speak of is not familiar to me. I tried calling the military guy at TESC, Jesu something. He didn't answer.

The "new" TA that we use is through the Navy NKO. It is a completely online TA form that from start to approval takes around 48-72 hours.

As far as TESC, military or not, you will have a hard time finding someone to speak with you. They usually won't even put someone on the phone unless you are enrolled. As I said, I have been going there for a little less than a year and know for a fact that TESCs are not free. If goarmyed has some deal with them, then maybe so. But I am betting she was talking about CLEP, DSST, or ECE (excelsior tests).

Can't find it anywhere. Maybe Army is different. I heard Army is more difficult when it comes to this kind of stuff. Thanks for the help anyways.

There is a separate tuition and fee schedule for the Military Degree Completion Program, the Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership, the Degree Pathways Program and the College's nursing program. Please call (888) 442-8372 for information.

So, I called and their office was closed. I need to find out what is going on. I will post once I know more..

Got this today:

As indicated below Thomas Edison State College is an LOI institution. This means that a course and/or exam has to be offered via the GoArmyEd portal before TA will cover it. That said, we are hoping to bring quite a few new courses and options online in the coming months, including TECEP examinations. While we unfortunately cannot provide an exact timeline, we do hope to have these options added for the summer of 2009 (e.g., June or July time period). In the meantime we do apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience.

So, for now, the ARMY will NOT pay for the TECEP.
