Regarding PDFs, I really miss Google Desktop.  The ability to search for a specific string of text in a collection of hundreds of PDFs was awesome.  I wish someone would make some comparable tool for searching through PDF libraries.

If you have Windows, File Explorer has that baked in.

It does, but it's indexing service isn't as fast or efficient as google desktop's was.

Ah, I wouldn't know. I only ever used Windows and not Google Desktop.
