Here's the question: I have 5 credits left to my degree, do I try for the 6 credit College Mathematics or go with College Algebra and take something easier for the final credits. I struggle with math and am frustrated out of my mind trying to pass one of these.....any advice?

Before I give my opinion let me tell you how much I hate math. I took a placement test at Community College and at the time, because I wasn't planning on a degree, I skipped any question that had a letter in the problem. Not surprisingly, I scored very low and when I decided to pursue a degree I had a choice of re-taking the placement test or taking 2 remedial math classes before I could take the one class needed for a degree. I chose to take the two remedial classes. I went to class, did my homework, then went to tutoring every single week to go over my homework. Even doing all that, I would still get to class and look at my homework and wonder how I was able to answer the questions. Math just does not stay in my head.
With that background, I would take the 3 credit math test and choose an easier test for your other 3 credits. For me, what I lose in time studying a second subject would more than make up for the torture and anguish of stressing over the 6 credit math.
Hope this helps.

My advice would be to go for College Mathematics. It's not that bad. I passed it and I am absolutely, positively, horrible at math. Brush up on a few things and then give it a shot.

Read the College Math CLEP specific thread. Sounds like College Math CLEP may be easier than College Algebra CLEP plus you get 6 credits. The thread was encouraging.

I found college math doable and I am NOT a math person. If you don't know what's on the IC flashcards, just look up the concepts on youtube. There are a lot of really great math teachers out there that have awesome videos.
I really think that almost anyone who has taken at least high school algebra could pass the college math CLEP if you use IC plus youtube lectures.

The no commitment way would be to go through the Official Study Guide questions cold and see what you score. You may have a natural apptitude toward a certain type of math. The CLEP that I took was the College Mathematics one. I used the calculator very little and of the times I did it I was just checking the math that I did in my head. If you've ever solved a quadratic equation or know the pythagorean theorem you should know enough math to pass this exam. I spent most of my study time review sets and I'd recommend others do the same. Also, as others have pointed out, SIX credits... $12.83 / credit (plus testing fee.) Hard to beat.
