@splirow, is your daughter moving towards a Bachelors degree afterwards?  Has she checked to see if there are any internal challenge exams for entry level math? Like Math 100?  Some colleges have these type of exams, it's similar to a CLEP and they will award credit for these challenge exams or an exemption.  If your daughter has failed CLEP College Algebra, ask admissions or advisor if she can get the required credit if she passed CLEP College Math instead, it's a 100 level exam and easier than College Algebra.  There are many options, you just need to know what is acceptable at the school and what is not...

Yes, she will move to a bachelors in TESU. Lone Star only accepts CLEP for Algebra and PreCal.

There isn't any other internal test. Only a "placement" math test. Which she has failed 3x by 2-3 questions.

We visited the school and tried everything... They do have a class that does both remedial and regular course at the same time saving her time... But, it was full, 3 weeks before the start of the semester.

The Good News

With being one course away from graduation, getting that diploma is within reach.

The Bad News

You will need to go HAM and put in around 200 hours to finish this up, likely over 2-3 months. You will also need to spend whatever it takes to pass this course.

Battle Plan

1. Take notes like you never took notes before. Write down every problem and every formula. Figure out why you don't know how to solve something. Buy a 100-200-page notebook.
   
   
   
2. Buy REA CLEP College Algebra on eBay for around $10
   
   
   
3. Do free Khan Academy and look into paying for Brilliant.org, as Rachel83az said
   
   
   
4. Buy the best calculator that is allowed on CLEP and ASU. You need to learn what the calculator can solve and what it can't solve. You need to know how to be a calculator Ninja. 
   
   
   
5. Buy tutoring service. You will need a mentor to hold your hand through these math problems. Look to buy 20-40 hours of tutoring.
   

Your Options

1. Do ASU. At $25,  it's cheap to see how this goes.
   
   
   
2. Do the CLEP in 2 months. Then you will need Peterson's and score at least 60% on the practice exams to have a good chance at passing the CLEP.
   
   
3. Do an SNHU course for $960 if that will work for a transfer. They use ALEKS, so you need to use it first to get comfortable. 
   

Wrap Up

Math is math, so it's somewhat the same regardless of where you learn algebra. Switching things up should keep you from becoming bored or frustrated. In addition, you need to find something that works for you.

Math is fun till it gets annoying. And for some, it gets annoying pretty fast! But it's just a matter of breaking math to individual concepts and learning each one.

Remember that people have no special math gene, so don't get caught up in self-limiting beliefs.

I agree on everything except for the last line...... Some people just don't understand numbers... I do, but not her. She is borderline autistic... She can draw, creative writing (amazing at it) and play music.... She just gets locked up for exams especially in math. It's not limiting her.

That ASU course will let you use a graphing calculator. "A handheld graphing calculator (such as the TI-83/84) is recommended and may be used on any exam in the class" Going "HAM" is using the Nspire CAS calculator. You would need to ask to use the Nspire calculator, as it makes algebra child's play. When you're done with the course, you can sell the calculator on eBay and get most of your money back.

I'm not sure if anyone has reviewed it, as such. I gave it a try, but I never finished it because I did Sophia Algebra instead. I think that ALEKS is a really good teaching method, especially if one has difficulties with math.

Yes, they will accept the transfer... I was talking about CLEP test options.
