Math Difficulty at TESU
#1
I have a question about the difficulty of the math courses at TESU:

Linear Algebra (MAT-321)
Calculus III (MAT-331)
Calculus IV (MAT-332)
Mathematical Modeling (MAT-351)
College Geometry (MAT-361)
Mathematical Logic (MAT-401)

Are any of these courses something to watch out for? I would imagine that Calculus III and IV would be the most difficult.

Will I be surprised by Mathematical Logic or Mathematical Modeling?

I don't want to be surprised by anything.

I really don't think I can take more than two courses per semester, but I'm also trying to think about how I can take enough courses to avoid the residency waiver. If there are easier math classes, I might be able to squeeze them in to get close towards flat rate tuition.

Thanks in advance. I currently need:

- Linear Algebra
- Calculus III
- Math 301+
- Math 301+
- Math 301+
- Math 200+
- Capstone

I can't speak to any of them in particular. I did take discrete math from TESU, and you should realize that there are no lectures and getting questions answered will be a slow email type process. You must plan on teaching the material to yourself. The thing that was most helpful for me was to purchase the solution manual. It gives you not only answers, but the steps for the even problems (the same one that the regular textbook will have answers for. That way, when you get stuck on an odd problem, you can find a similar even problem and study the solution.

Well, that's scary. Are the instructors not available by phone?

Not that I've ever seen in any of my TESU courses. Sometimes they are pretty good, getting back to you in a day. Other times the mentor is barely available even online. In general, I found sending messages to work better than forum posts for getting an answer.

As I said, you need to be able to learn on your own.

What about a community college? That would give you RA credit. Many community colleges have much cheaper tuition than TESU. In my experience, the community college courses online usually utilize Blackboard. They're very interactive and you have access to the professor. There's also the on campus courses which in some states/communities may be moved online due to COVID.
