Masters in DS or Web Dev Planning Help

Hi there,

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and currently have a job. However, I’m interested in Online Master’s degree in either Data Science or Web Development.

I’m particularly drawn to Data Science because of its significant potential for societal impact. However, I’m concerned about my math skills, as I’m not very strong in this area. Are there any online graduate programs in Data Science that start with a strong focus on building foundational math skills?

Additionally, I’m interested in Web Development, but I’ve had difficulty finding graduate programs specifically for this field. Are such programs available?


Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

The catch is admission is, by the standards of this forum, very competitive (admission rates are around ~50%). They also say that they want to see you've done up to calc III, linear algebra, and a college level stats course first.

I second Eastern. They have a "data science for all" philosophy. If you've never taken a math or programming course, they'll still admit you. They'll teach you all the math you need for data science.

These various variables actually are important in making a decision on which degree and institution may work for you better. In regards to Eastern University, not particular to this program, there are many graduates who have obtained jobs... They're not the only thing you need to work on, my recommendation has always been a balanced mix/match trifecta of certs, degree, experience...

When I was in the program, I was pretty active in the Discord. Yes there were people who got jobs after graduating. Here is some of the outcome based on their "classification"
1. Some students who had data analytics jobs before the program got better jobs/promoted after graduating
2. Some students who had jobs in other fields before the program get data analytics jobs after graduating
3. Some students were straight out of BS/BA with no job experience. I do not know what jobs they got after graduating.
4. At least two students I know, after graduating were admitted to Ph.D. in Computer Science at other universities.

Overall, I think the program is effective. It's pretty cheap. If you are active in the course discussion board and answer fellow student's questions, you're likely to be offered a GA position, where they pay for one course for every term you GA.
