Master's Application Question
#1
I plan to pursue my Master's at Fort Hays where there is a 60 graded credit requirement. Does anyone have thoughts on whether they will consider Penn Foster courses as graded if I order transcripts from Penn Foster rather than just ACE evaluation. I know it is a stretch that anyone would have had direct experience with this but I am curious if the idea sounds absurd.

I am not sure, but theoretically it seems that it would work. Is the 60 graded credit requirement a requirement for all graduate degrees there?

So, putting PF aside for a second, do you have 60 graded undergraduate credits? If not, you might want to talk with them first. If they seem inflexible, there are zillions of schools you can apply to that would LOVE to have you.

I'm confused. I could have sworn that you already got clearance from FHSU for the grades that you did have. I remember PMing you about it around this time last year and you said you decided not to go. Did something change with them?

It's a requirement of several of the MLS/MPS concentrations. Like Literary Studies, which I was interested in for a while. You have to have a certain GPA on the last 60 graded credits, among other things. Makes things tricky for test-out students.

Back in 2013 they said to go ahead and apply, but their application instructions are now very explicit on the need for 60 graded credits. I have decided it is best to meet that requirement before I apply since my undergraduate record is a bit chaotic. As most of you know, I am not the most consistent person. At the end of this semester, I will have 51 graded credits, so I am much closer to the 60 graded credits than I was in 2013. I know there are multiple schools where the graded credit thing is not an issue, but I have decided on Fort Hays because they have the degree program I want and they have a decent ranking for online programs. I am just not real sure how they would view nationally acreditted coursework when it comes to meeting the graded credit requirement.

I am enrolled in a web development course with Fort Hays for the summer, but I am trying to decide if I want to apply for the masters or knock out another 6 credits with KCTCS first. The cost isn't a big deal and I should be able to complete 6 credits at KCTCS in addition to the course I am taking at FHSU. It is easier to bounce these ideas off of the degree forum crowd than pepper the councelors at FHSU.

I think I will go ahead and send another inquiry to the graduate school and see what they say.

(Update)
I sent a formal inquiry to ask them if Penn Foster or Straighterline transcripts that show grades will count toward their graded credit requirement. I will post an update when I get a response. It is quite possible I am overthinking this. :willynilly:

I decided to assume my Penn Foster or Straighterline credits will count toward the 60 graded requirement and started the application process. I will sure to update the thread when I get a response.
