Hello, I want to take the DSST MIS exam in February. I am confused about what to study. The DANTES website lists two textbooks (although I don't want to comb through 800+ pages) and this site has exams for $20 per month. Someone mentions Peterson's, but I can't find anything relating to MIS. How do I study for this exam? I am willing to put in the time, but I need some direction. I already bought one of the two recommended texts (the cheaper on). Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's been over a year since I took that one, but the info in the above thread got me through mine.
Edit: Doh, looks like they updated it in 2008. They already have some feedback for the new version, and it doesn't appear it's gotten much harder. Check out the end of page 2 and page 3 for the updated information.

I went to the Peterson's website and can't find the material that everyone is talking about. Any links?

Another thing, has anyone ordered the material from finishcollegefast.com or passyourclass.com? This seems to be the only site with study material.

I used the Passyourclass materials before finding InstantCert. This is just my opinion, but I consider the money I spent for InstantCert's flashcards ( InstantCert.com: Prospective Students ) to be the best investment I've made towards attaining college credit. This is the "IC" that you see everyone referring to in the forums.
Here's the practice exam link for MIS DSST -
Prometric Online Testing - Error
And here's the factsheet for the exam -

Seriously, think about subscribing to the IC flashcards if you haven't already and you plan on taking more than just this exam. The bulk of my credits have come from testing, and IC was an integral part of my preparation.
Good luck!

Thank you. I did subscribe and am looking at the flashcards. I see that as a valuable resoursce down the road, but what about study material? Is the passyourclass.com stuff worth it? Also, I found the Peterson's exams, but it looks like you have to be in the military to use it. Thanks

DSST - GetCollegeCredit.com
Look on the right side of the screen for "Take a Practice Exam" They cost 19.95 to take for civilians, but I think there was a few promotional codes running around a few months back that allowed us to take them for free. I'm not sure if they still apply, but perhaps Shoto knows what they are.
Regarding study resources - I primarily use IC as my only study resource. If you read through the forum I pointed out earlier, there are plenty of other websites, books, ect that are mentioned. The Passyourclass materials seem to be good for MIS, but I cam across quite a few wrong answers in many of their other exam packages or they didn't adequately cover the material needed. Once again, for me personally the closest "one stop solution" for studying CLEP's and DSST's is IC. The rest is merely supplementary.

I took the DSST MIS test a couple of weeks ago, and found it to be much, much easier than the CLEP IS & Apps test! The new MIS, at least the one I took, wasn't even close to being as deep or wide as the CLEP. My MIS test was 94 questions in a fairly narrow range. The HW questions were all extremely basic; the main focus seemed to be DBs/data mining, reasons for outsourcing, and distinctions between different types of mfg. and business systems. Very few questions related to SDLC, none on programming, lots on DBs. This may be considered an UL test, but it certainly seemed to be elementary IS to me. Honestly, the CLEP IS test is a much broader one than the new DSST MIS. If you're already moderately computer literate, read up on DBs & data mining and then go for it!

Go through Instant Cert flash cards for MIS and Computer Info and Application Apps and that will cover everything you need to know to pass this exam. Also, take a look at the specific feedback exam for MIS:
