Malcolm Nance: Excelsior BA to Cable News Star to Fighting for Ukraine

Malcolm Nance, BA Excelsior College 2011, is a national security analyst well known through books written, cable news appearances, and 1.1 million Twitter followers. A prominent critic of Trump and Russian interference. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He's 60 years old.

He's now fighting in Lviv. Last night he announced on MSNBC where he's a frequent guest that he's joined the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine.

Roar! You made me google search! Apparently there have been several students or graduates across the US joining the International Legion. Most if not all of them are from the country and want to fight for their homeland, but others have joined in to help Ukraine as well. Hopefully this mad man (Putin) stops the war sooner than expected...

I watched his insane video (4/19/22) where he was apparently "under fire." Checking his watch to see where the bombs were coming from, telling us how many were going to be coming, because I guess you can only send missles in threes or something? Yeah, except that there were actual people walking around him going about their daily business and they did not seem to be noticing any bombs. Bombs going off that the camera was not picking up (no shaking, no sounds of bombs), and the people around him weren't noticing either. Alrighty then.

With his interview on 4/18/22 - have you EVER seen someone hold a gun this way? EVER? With it slung around the neck and then crossing your arms over it? This is the craziest thing I've seen in a while. Nobody with any gun sense would do this. Especially if you were in the military.

If anyone believes that this guy is actually fighting over there, send me your email, I know a Nigerian prince who would love to talk to you.

I wasn't taught to hold a gun like that, but I also haven't served in the military. I noticed that he had a U.S. flag and his name on his uniform. Current advisement going around is that those who are or were affiliated with the military should not go to Ukraine with their U.S. uniforms or military identification cards because they were not authorized by the DOD to serve in Ukraine, and the person's presence could be mistaken as U.S. involvement in combat.

So when you wake up in the morning, what happens?

Well, it depends on where I am and what I’m doing. I get up at 4am because I like to be up early. There’s a routine depending on where you are. I get up at four and what I do is I read, I read the news. I try to feel the battlefront based on Ukrainian news and reporting. And then I look at expert analysis from the previous night in the west. If we have PT, we do PT [physical training]. No matter where I am, no matter what I’m doing, I constantly check my gear. If I’m in a safe house on a press junket, like I am now, I go over all of my gear. I reorganize my pack. I assume that I will have to take everything, get up and run with it or move to a forward location.

Right now, part of my duty is to the press. They were well aware that I was a high-level asset. So, instead of putting me out on the line, I’m in a safe house talking to people like you.

My ultimate value is that I have experience at this. Now, look, I’m not an infantry guy. But despite what critics on Twitter who watch Rambo may think, combat isn’t about being a murdering, Seal Team Six assassin; it’s mainly about precision, accurate fire, selective fire, keeping people calm, getting on the line and moving forward. For almost 15 of my 20 years, my middle name was, ‘I need a Black guy who speaks Arabic’. When I was at NSA, I was being loaned out everywhere, so I’ve seen a lot and conducted missions behind or near enemy lines. If I was a white guy, I would be a hero. But with some people, it’s just as simple as: ‘You are Black; you can’t have done anything exceptional in your life, nothing.’ They can’t imagine that I’m here for altruistic reasons.
