I received my confirmation letters from TESC yesterday, so now I feel completely safe in saying, or rather, shouting to the whole world:
I'M DONE!!!
And just slightly excited about it.
My first test day was January 18, 2010 when I took A&I Lit and the old English Comp w/ Essay. I took the final to my first and last course, War and American Socieity, on May 31, 2011. According to TESC, I will graduate on September 9, 2011 with my AAS in Environmental, Safety and Security Technologies (Thank you, FEMA!) and my BA in History.
I tested out of everything except the course (and you might could argue I tested out of that one too... See HERE where I tell about my FlashTrack experience.) with CLEPs, DSSTs, one ECE, and FEMAs.
I didn't use CollegePlus! or anything except for you wonderful people here and a couple of friends who had done this before me. I have nothing against CP! other than the fact that it's rather pricey. I think, had I used CP!, it would have doubled, or more, my total college costs. As it is, I think I finished with roughly $8000 in total costs (okay, almost total. I didn't add in the gas $$$ for the drives to and from the testing center.).
I enjoyed testing, with Environment and Humanity and A&I Lit being my favorite tests (I essentially didn't have to study for those! :p). However, I didn't enjoy dealing with the college. Not that I had a particularly bad experience or anything; my stress level increased a LOT once I enrolled though.
So, to those working on their degree or thinking about it: Go for it! Testing is fun, and it's a relatively fast and inexpensive way to get a degree! Have confidence in your abilities. Chances are, if you're here, you don't need someone telling you what tests to take. Utilize this forum! The folks here are AMAZING, and they're SO helpful! Work on your plan yourself, then post it here for these folks to critique. It'll probably save you a lot of time and money. (Thankyouthankyouthankyou! Everyone here has been wonderful, and I couldn't have done this without y'all!!!)
Now that this chapter of my life is closed, or very nearly so, I'm looking forward to trying all those things I wished I had time to pursue while I was studying for tests. Maybe I'll piddle around with some hobbies, and who knows, perhaps I'll discover some great, hidden talent that will earn me boocoos of money!
milelol: (Learn something new everyday! I find that boocoos/bookoos is actually supposed to be spelled beaucoups. And that perhaps using "of" after it is incorrect, but I've never heard it used without "of", so it stays.)
With that, I'm gone. I'll check in from time to time, but I suspect those times will grow less and less frequent. See y'all around, perhaps! If you need me or miss me that much, drop a comment on my blog (link's in my signature), and I'll get back to you as quickly as possible.
